This is my first attempt at creating a map and I did not realize what I was getting myself into! 1:1 scale map of NAS Alameda, circa early 1990’s prior to base closure in 1997.



Naval Air Station Alameda (NAS Alameda) was a United States Navy Naval Air Station in Alameda, California, located on the San Francisco Bay, east of the city of San Francisco. Operational in 1940 prior to the United States involvement in World War 2, NAS Alameda was an important naval base through the Cold War until its closure in 1996 pursuant to the Base Realignment and Closure Act.



Much of the base and its runways remain however little by little the base is being turned over to developers and business owners.

With the help of Google Maps, Google Earth, and photos, I have tried to reconstruct it as close as possible to how the base was in the early ‘90’s (when I was stationed aboard two ships at the time). From time-to-time I did have to take the liberty to ad-lib certain buildings due to lack of reference photos or information.
