Update #6 : 08/18/2013 7:05:48 am8/18/13

The tree grip world is again included.

Update #5 : 07/19/2013 2:00:07 pm7/19/13

Another update including a few changes among which:
  • African trees
  • Altered some models slightly, to have less floatyness and awkwardness people complained about, and less fences.
  • The old models have roots now and come in BO2 format aswell, which should be a great news for those who like to worldpaint
  • The download no longer includes world files, there are ample example of how one can use these trees in douzons if not hundreds of projects on PMC, and it makes the download size a lot smaller

Update #4 : 03/10/2013 2:35:56 pm3/10/13

Added a new filter option, an Excel sheet with checkboxes to help you decide which trees would fit your need! Do watch the video if you get stuck with it!

Update #3 : 02/01/2013 2:05:36 pm2/01/13

i've added 42 trees from the Amazon to the Tree Repository. I'd has a right variety of trees which will fit in most tropical settings.

Update #2 : 12/29/2012 9:28:52 am12/29/12

Ball_Lightning made a lovely cinematic showing of the two test islands thus far. It is said a picture tells more than a thousand words, by that logic a cinematic must be the equivalent of an atlas. About as good as it gets without downloading the project and actually looking at it ingame. :)

Update #1 : 12/28/2012 5:19:07 pm12/28/12

Added 43 templates for native North American trees

Awesome job, I have see many of these trees irl and must say they look to familiar to the pack you have made. Well done DSF.  One tree I would have loved to se in htis is the Sequoia being one of the grandest trees in the world, and found in one area of Calif., but I have the big trees mod which helps. Placing them would have been nicer than random by mod.

Thank you for sharing all your work, Kal.

As wonderful as these trees are i get told everytime i try to extract these files that 7-zip can't open the archive. Can anyone help?

Thanks for specifying what software you use. I will investigate the issues you have uncompressing the file with 7zip. Meanwhile consider getting WinZip or winrar. That's the software I use and is as far as I know compatible.

Sorry for the inconvenience. I'm on it and will update the download if I can't uncompress the files using 7zip myself.

Hey Lente! :)

So lately I've been working on a 32 Subcribers special, and I wanted to ask you if you could do me a favor. Can you make two of my costume tree's into .BO2 files?
I've been searching all day, asking all people I know, but you are apparently my last hope of getting those tree's on to my map.

You can paint just as well with schematics. I provide my models as BO2's so i can by default lower the roots in the ground, so i won't have to teach people how to do it manualy.

You could make schematics of your trees. Make a new custom object layer > import the schematics > double click an individual model in the layer > double click the blue text coordinates in the menu that opened > adjust the values so the tree aligns in the preview window > hit ok a few times. And that's it. :) Ofcourse repeat the process for all models individualy :)

One thing I would love to see is a set of 'big trees', the minecraft default big trees perhaps just made a bit taller.

May I also suggest we start an image database of all the trees for fast and easy look up? Worldpainter does offer a nice preview, but it don't really show the full scale. I know I killed my game adding in a few custom trees that ended up being hugeeeee.  me thinking 10-20 blocks tall.. nawwww make it 50-70+ blocks tall.  Some leaf/bark varients of some trees would also be a nice touch. Yes you can change such in world edit and so forth but if you want a nice 'mix' forest of leaf types, doing that in game is a bit... hmmm.

Having an image database, just a simple image of the tree would not only help for easy look up so we know what each file looks like, but an idea of the over all size before we try and add it to our worlds.

The list is not intended to be complete, i searched for the most common trees as far as that information could be found. The pack is not intended to be a complete tree guide, it's intended to be a good basis, you won't find all the trees in the forest near your home, but you should find atleast one or two -related- trees. That's how it is intended :)

Googled araucaria, bit to distinctive looking tree. The more unique the trees are, the easier it is to spot mirror/rotated models and see that there are only a few models, something not as clear with average trees :) That tree is very low on the priority list.

So how did you "paint" the trees on? Pasting the tree schematics would take way to long to make good forests
Edit Reply Delete
Download World painter.
Load up your world and turn on that you cannot destroy the things you have build allready.

Then download his tree repository.
Go into World Painter and there you will find the list of 'layers' and a '+'
Hit the + and then do "add custom layer object"
Go into the folder wich they are in and select the tree you want to use.

Hope this helped you out.

I want to protect the repository contents as is, if you use the contents of the repository and plan on distributing your map commercially, that's fine. If you want to upload schematics/bo2's which are completelly unedited, or even only slightly edited or want to redistribute the tree grid world, you aren't allowed to do so. You are to refer people to my set, as the only source of these models.

The copyright description covers all ways of using the repository, you proposed a case, i gave a direct answer based on the case and some further description to the copyright notice on the contents of the pack as is. But the copyright notice as i've described it in the description covers my intend also for future versions of the repository. So i won't have to change it ;)

Anybody who's worried enough to ask for a better description probably has no malicious intend. The copyright is based on fair use plus extra liberties, and there is an abundance of examples of people using these models in a perfectly acceptable manner. If i've condoned it for so long, it shows intend and i'd have a very hard time enforcing copyright claims ;) I'd say you might be worrying a bit to much ;)

Lente, I am making a gigantic world based of/copied from the "Avatar: The last airbender" world, untill now I only finished the north pole. There is an ancient forrest on the north pole and I used a few of your trees there, it really does make it look great! Since you made the trees I though you might be interested. :)

you either get Worldedit (as a server plugin or as singleplayer commands) and use //schematic load (name) and then //paste, or WorldPainter (add custom object layer), or MCEdit (idk about the function there).

With the new 1.7.2 update out, I think it would be really cool if you updated some of the trees to utilize the new logs and leaves that are available now. Also, how did you design these (what program)? I'm interested in how you got the bark texture to appear on all sides of the logs.

I absolutely love the trees, but after i am done importing the trees in with worldedit and try to load the schematics up onto the worldedit clipboard, they do not exist. (the schematics do show up on the schematic list) Am i doing something wrong? I doubt it has anything to do with the download as nobody else has reported this problem. :(

Note: I am using filezilla to import the files into the schematics folder.

Thanks for the help

The only thing i can think of is that you might not actually have loaded them to your clipboard. To load in a schematic the name needs to be a perfect match, and if i recall correctly, worldedit can't deal with spaces?

What i would suggest you to do is rename the schematics to the group/number system so for example, EUR1L / EUR1S / EUR2L / etc., and delete the rest of the name of the trees.

That's strange, as today the repo has been download roughly a hundred times and you're the only one to say that, plus i haven't touched the download since the last update! I'm afraid the download isn't the problem :) or mediafire borked something up, if i receive more complaints i'll look into it. But meanwhile, proceed as if the problem is on your side ;) because i really don't see how the download can be corrupted all of a sudden.

Well I would probably account for a few of those downloads atleast. I've downloaded it several times to see if were an issue caused by a faulty download, It doesn't seem to be.

How am I able to proceed when the issue is that the file is corrupted.

Check into it? If you would kindly take 2 minutes to DL your own file and verify that it unpacks correctly that would be awesome.
