Peace all,

I wanted to post some content introducing folks to our online Minecraft summer camp. Here are some sections from our Academy for Gameful & Immersive Learning Experiences' website describing the project:

CURRICULA

Learn. Play. Level Up in Life. AGILE offers one of a kind learning experiences tailored to the unique dreams, drives, & goals of each & every participant, player, & student. Join forces in an epic quest to save Earth from otherwise certain doom today.

(Y)OUR CURRICULA

OUR STORIES...

We use a unique game based system to organize our learning experiences together in a fun and seamless fashion, generating multiple curricula from the ground up. After registering, you will receive a series of prompts that will help us and you to identify the coordinates of the story of (y)our expansion. Our organized play sessions will be guided by creator and game master Cody Lestelle and are focused on building resilience on community and personal levels toward alternative futures. We draw on Dr. Polo DeCano's APT framework for cultivating resilience on an interpersonal level and on the Mānoa Futures School framework for cultivating resilience at societal levels. This system is designed to prepare participants for the rapidly transforming world of 21st century Earth and beyond.

Here is a preview of the prompts:

Step 1: Answer the following questions to create your character. Your character can be a representation of your "real life" self or any existing or new fictional character. For example, one world of our main pilot program this summer will be based around Black Panther & Wakanda and participants will create characters who are from that fictional setting but the stories we tell as part of AGILE will be informed by the real-world context & histories involved (e.g. beginning with the "Black Panther Film Movie Companion" guide by Tess Raser or the Sustainable Futures Scenarios by Solomon Enos & Dr. Sherryl Vint).
  • Who are you?[your name and what world(s), people(s)/culture(s) are you from]
  • What are you?[what is your original—non disguised—form]
  • Why are you?[what is your purpose and why have you been sent]
  • Where are you?[where on does your quest begin]
  • When are you?[what time period does your mission begin?]
  • How do you exist?[how are you surviving and how are you doing?]

This step can be completed before or after registration, but be sure to write down and/or remember your answers--even though you can change them later.

Step 2: Intergalactic & multiversal mapping.
  • This step completed collectively after registration.

Step 3: Clan, collective, group, guild, faction, &/or team formation.
  • This step completed collectively after registration.

Step 4: Establish Minecraft Multiversity townships, beginning with your town's public library system, economy, and forms of governance.
  • This step completed collectively after registration.

Step 5: Play through the Intergalactic Multiversity digital board game at the center of the map which will guide us through forming and fulfilling (y)our learning objectives in a dynamic and evolving fashion.
  • This step completed collectively after registration.

HOW IT PLAYS / WORKS

AGILE allows the community and individuals to set their own level of engagement and desired experience. While we are in pre-launch mode all of our servers for all games are open play access and are listed below. There are also many other major and minor servers that we engage with as an organized team of learners/players entering those other realms. The AGILE hosted servers below are our home worlds and the other servers listed are worlds that have our interest because they are well maintained, have larger communities of players to engage with, and/or demonstrate highly developed uses of the games that we use as our 21st century classrooms and textbooks.

While server access is likely to remain open and entirely free without registration to those who show up in good way, those interested in our summer camp should [url=(Ad link removed)]register[/url].

    ABOUT US:

The Academy for Gameful & Immersive Learning Experiences (AGILE) is a primarily web based multiversity campus. AGILE was founded by Cody Lestelle who is a father, a K-12 public school substitute teacher, alumnus of the Comparative History of Ideas, participant of Unitierra Oaxaca, active student of LTEC, and current Ph.D. student of Alternative Futures & Indigenous Politics. We use the term multiversity instead of university because we believe that peaceful and sustainable co-existence requires acknowledging and respecting the plural nature of reality. Our core mission is to develop, grow, and share skills for co-creating and navigating all our many different worlds together to help make Earth a world in which many worlds fit. We believe that games (analogue, digital, and mixed-reality) are an ideal medium for learning 21st century skills.

To begin with, the primary campuses and classroom spaces of AGILE are hosted on our Discord and Minecraft servers. From our Minecraft servers we collectively organize our storytelling efforts and adventures into other game realms. See all our current games and servers at play. Also see curricula.

    • Discord is a free text and voice chat service that can run on a large variety of devices and we use it to host live discussions, presentations, and workshops. Click here to join our Discord server.
    • Minecraft is basically digital Lego. It is a multi-player game or virtual environment that is completely open to the creative actions of its participants/players and the world is composed of a multitude of different types of blocks that have different properties and which players collect in order to craft their own art, buildings, items, projects, and even townships and transportation systems.
      • In our Minecraft realms, which can be accessed via many different computing devices, participants engage in an array of closely facilitated and self-directed activities. Through building the Minecraft worlds participants weave their own priorities and realities into a collective and constantly moving tapestry that facilitates extremely effective and fun learning amid local to local and local to global networking.
      • We use Minecraft as a primary campus because it allows for an easily accessible web space that is a persistent world completely subject to sculpting by everyone who participates in it and that participants can utilize to link to any other variety of preferred mediums (e.g. blogs, other games, and real world places and sources) through Minecraft world writings. For an example of connecting Minecraft world content to real world content, see video below.
