What I have made here is a railway that you can navigate while riding on it, no stopping necessary.
This was all for design and testing and is an ongoing project.

Firstly Its on my server Running 1.12.0 ATM
Here's how to get to it, When you log on and are trapped in the small spawn room, Just type /warp tt

That's it, you don't have to talk to the npc unless your playing survival.

• How it WorksThroughout the Railway there are many turns where you can choose to go one direction or keep going straight. as seen below. Left Signal Right Signal^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^ To start you Absolutely have to put the Left Signal in your 1st Inventory Slot, and the Right Signal in your 2nd Inventory Slot. This will not work if you don't do so.The rest is easy Grab as many Carts as you'd like and go for a ride, When you see a banner with the L or R on it, that's a turn, to turn at that turn hold the Signal that matches the banner while you pass it, the yellow flags are placed right before the actual turn so hold it till you pass them.Thats really it, below Im going to cover a few technical details and issues that I expect may occur.
  
• Firstly I have not added messages on where you are going or road names, etc. In the future i will add messages that will appear in chat with Turn info or road info.
  
• This was all for test purposes and as such there are a few things i still have to work on. However all tracks are connected.
  
• The Rail works by detecting if the required Signal is being held in the main hand (in its specific Inv slot) for a short duration near the turn, This is all activated by a detector rail that triggers a command block to search a 10 block radius.
  
• Because of this 10 block radius, others that are on the rail and close by could affect or be affected by your choice on where to go, but only if your close on the rail.
  
• I have yet to see how lag will affect this rail, My server runs with 4Gb on a shared host, With 3 people i don't usually go below 19 tps, Tps Lag would affect this I want to see how much this could handle so hopefully at least 10 people can try this at once sometime.
  

You may also notice its barren here, there's no buildings or anything, Id like to see that change, if you want to build ill let anyone choose a plot size and make you an area, Sorry that its not automatic, for now you will have to wait till im on, but dont fret if you want to leave a comment and ill get back with you and get you a plot. I check PMC almost everyday. Another thing the world that this Test rail is built on is a very special Gen, from the top height its only 52 world height, Because of the secrets underground.
This makes a good test map to see how you build and if you do great, you can build in the city as well (different world). All id like to see is effort, it doesn't have to be anything spectacular.

Its something like from top 50 air 7 dirt 50 stone 20 water 30 stone 40 air then dirt and stone and lava.
