Rift Savannah

Terrain Theme:
A beautiful yet harsh sanctuary, the Rift Savannah sheltered those who could bear its punishing conditions. Elephants roamed the island and hippos drank from the many watering holes littered around nature's arena. Yet a certain magic was present on the island; a mysticism belonging only to the Rift. Perhaps this is why the Rift Savannah was locked into a perpetual summer - not that the wildlife on the island minded.
Development Commentary:
The Rift Savannah is very much an experimental piece, primarily used to experiment with water features such as rivers, arches and waterfalls. It is themed around a savannah of scorching sunlight eternally at the height of summer and is very, very loosely based on the Sahel region of Africa. I am rather pleased with how it turned out, although an area to improve in future builds of this theme would be greater diversity in Savannah regions. Mixing this Savannah theme with a desert and canyon valley, for instance, could result in a brilliant multi-biome terrain, and something that I will be experimenting with further over the next few months.
