Built in the 15th century in the Brabantine Gothic style, the Saint Catherine's church dominates the skyline of Den Briel.
In real life, this church was never finished. At the end of the 15th century, several unfortunate events forced the construction to be halted. Today, the church consists of a nave with tower.
On the fourth picture, you can see different wool colours. White wool means current structure, although I demolished the wall between the nave and the rest of the church.
The tower was never completed either. Today, only the stone structure visible on the screenshots exists. The lantern was never built. The spire would have reached around 100 metres in height, comparable to the famous spires of Delft and Amersfoort.
The sources for the reconstruction consist of comparisons between several churches built by Everaert Spoorwater, the master craftsman of the church. For the plan, I mostly followed the plan laid out by the Stichting Behoud Brielse Dom. Due to some logical considerations, I changed components in the choir.
Built for the 450th anniversary of the capture of Den Briel.
