In the event of invasion, or revolution, the first emperors of the Contor dynasty built Santra Castle to protect later emperors. Its geographical fortifications, such as being on top of Mount Santra, would act as barriers from rebels and conquerers. In the later years of the Contor dynasty, corruption began to take over the government, leading the last emperor to beautify the castle, seeing it as a very likely future safe house. Work on the castle was completed, but the project strained the already dead economy, leading to popular uprisings. The last emperor was killed in an attempt to flee to Santra. The Contor empire collapsed, and achieftainof the Marka people to the north declared himself as king of all lands once under Contor rule. The people by this point were happy to see a strong ruler abolish theoppressingways of the Contor.
