Sorry about not finishing the Dauntless yet.  I know I've pushed it off a lot, but at least now I have a good reason!  One day I opened the world to add some rooms to the one deck I haven't touched yet, and the entire flight deck disappeared.  All of the coal blocks.  I'm in the process of replacing them while simultaneously building Skylord vessels for Celestial Chaos and making a tutorial about how I build my ships, which involves building yet another.  Since I haven't updated my account for over 2 months, I decided to release my current two Celestial Chaos ships: my heavy and light fighters.  I'll upload the heavy fighter once I finish with the title picture, but for now enjoy the Harpy!

Specs!
  • Name: SF-18 Harpy
  • Type: Space Superiority Fighter
  • Manufacturer/Designer: Brony Aerospace
  • Crew: 1
  • Length: 18m
  • Wingspan: 15m
  • Height: 4m
  • Powerplant: 2 VASIMR rocket thrusters powered by 1 mini nuclear reactor.  Anti-gravity generators assist in atmospheric flight.
  • Top Speed: 0.6x lightspeed.
  • Range: 30 million miles.
  • FTL: No
  • Armament:
    • 2 Heavy Laser Cannons (Output = 30 MW)
    • 5 Ordnance Hardpoints per Wing.
      • Nuclear-equipped fighter-to-fighter (FTF) missiles.
      • Antimatter antiship missiles.
      • Antimatter bombs.
      • Conventional Missiles and Bombs for Atmospheric Use.

    • 6 .50 caliber Machine Guns in the Nose (Bullet powder injected with oxygen prior to firing.)

  • Shields: Electromagnetic hull plating
  • Weight: 22 tons
  • Maneuvering system: Standard control surfaces (atmospheric) and multi-axial RCS system (space)
  • Cost: $12 million Skylord dollars ($24 million USD)

As the Skylords found more and more threats coming from the stars, mainly the Republic of the Dragon, they needed a way to defend Earth not just on it but above.  Skylord Brony was commissioned by the Air Navy to design the initial vessels, with two fighters coming first to provide some form of defense as larger starships were built.  Incorporating technology acquired from trading with Miraculum as well as independently-researched and contracted sources, the SF-18 Harpy was designed as an inexpensive (relatively), fast, maneuverable, and powerful carrier-based fighter, specifically for the Andromeda-class carrier currently under construction.  The fighters are also capable of operations from Dauntless- and Nimitz-class supercarriers of the Skylords and allied United States.  Manufactured by Brony Aerospace, Harpy has been authorized for export, with examples currently undergoing testing and pilot training in the United States, Australia, Britain, Japan, Israel, and Germany, albeit with downgraded weaponry.  It is propelled by VASIMR electromagnetic thrusters set on high-thrust, which are powered by a miniature nuclear reactor and fueled by Xenon-based propellant.  To meet the dual-environment requirement, proprietary anti-gravity generators supplement the thrusters and the lift that they generate from the wings.  There are currently 3 active squadrons of Harpies with 30 fighters each, and 2 more on the way for immediate assignment to the Andromeda.  Variants are planned for stealth, electronic warfare, intelligence, and ground attack.

22 tonne? Quite heavy, no? Unless this is displacement. There is a difference when fully enveloped. the only time diplacement equals weight is when a non-solid entity is placed into a solution of greater density. The displacemnt is equal to the weight, where equalibrium will cause such an entity to settle at the point where force applied is equal to resistance met.

I just can't see how these could have such a high mass. Unless there's a secret about the compressed plasma having distortion on nearby solids?

I was basing this off of the F-18, which is 18 tons fully loaded.  Given this is around the same size, I'd assume the base weight is similar. (Airframes and plating). However, the Harpy has its RCS maneuvering system, which needs thrusters and fuel storage, in addition to heavy shielding to protect against cosmic radiation.  It would also need heat shielding on the ventral side in the event of a reentry.  Finally, adding in the increased sensor/communications array and the anti-gravity generators, plus the inertial dampener, would increase weight even more.  At that point, 22 tons seems light.

Fair point. However, an airframe (voidframe?) of aluminium with a coating of ceramic would be effective at warding off undiluted solar radiation. Not impenetrable as yours basically is and it would need replacing quite often as containment fractures start developing, but effective as cheaper use-it-lose-it starfighters.
In any case, mass is of no concern in a void, so additional protection seems actually viable. These fighters are probably your greatest asset in space, limited only by the mission endurance of their occupants.
Regardless, they look fantastic.

That's a great idea for a fighter that's designed as a sort of parasite for a smaller ship, but I intended for this to be a bit more of a durable fighter, especially for long range missions.  Also, the Harpy itself is supposed to be able to operate from most Space Fleet ships (The Archangel has a special hangar for one) and I doubt all starships would have the facilities to maintain a fighter that needs constant maintanence in the same way a carrier could.  That's the wonderful thing about space combat, mass is pretty much inconsequential.  While unfortunately we're not going to be using fighters much in Celestial Chaos for any direct combat, I'm relying on them as a component of carrier task force strategy to make sure my battle groups can hold out against foes with much more powerful weapons, since they can act as scouts and have a limited effect on enemy weapons. (We're still working out space combat, with a long way to go.)
Thanks!

Don't know about your civilization, but mine likes to go as far as its tech can take it, in this case space.

Define "going a bit out of hand."  We all just wanted to expand from one environment to multiple ones.
