Behold, the Shrine of Aeolus!

Legend has it that eons ago, there was a great band of warriors known as the Anemoi.  They were noble, powerful and just.  They were the guardians of the world, the foe of evil and the bringers of light.  According to ancient text, these mighty warrions got their power from the god of the winds - Aeolus himself!  The Anemoi had power over the air and wind, and this power allowed wonders.  The Shrine was a place where the Anemoi could meditate and hone their powers.  It was a grand yet tranquil place built by the Anemoi as a tribute to Aeolus.

Within the Shrine, you would see the grandeaur of the design as well as the incorporation of the great power of the air of the Anemoi.  The massive marble structures are magically lifted by the clouds.  Towering pillars of marble are seen levitating in the air, held up by the strange aura of the winds.  The incredible amount of blue glass, a material the Anemoi were known for, rise, curve and jut towards the sky effortlessly.  At the center of the Shrine is the Helm of the Western Wind -  a symbol of nobility and strength.

This however, was eons ago.  The Anemoi have since mysteriously disappeared.

The Shrine now has seen better days.  The snow and bits of cloud have invaded the area in the absence of maintenence.  Modern people have discovered the Shrine and built stone pathways and floors, hoping they themselves can use the Shrine.  However, the added stone soon crumbled without the support of the Anemoi's power.  The Shrine now sits abandoned by its original creators and those who tried to explore it.  Its beauty, however, is not far from its former glory. The Shrine of Aeolus remains ready for the next set of noble warriors deserving of the power of Aeolus.

About the build!

Hi guys, xandstorm here.

Have you ever gone home from a crappy day at school/work and just wanted to do something to get your mind off things?  Well, that's what this build did for me.  I did it becuase I wanted to.. dare I say I even needed to.  I was looking for a creative outlet, and I found this on PMC and decided to go for it.  I was pretty eager to get back into building.

The project is pretty small.. well there's only so much one guy can do in the given time.  I also didnt use any mods like worldedit or voxelsniper.  This build was a purely vanilla creative build -  all i had was my imagination, patience and some good music to play while building.  It felt awesome conceptualizing, visualizing and executing the project in a simple, stripped down, vanilla experience.  This build took me back to the days when I first started building.

The project's technicalities
The first thing I had to do was find the best location.  The concept I had was to build something that molded around the environment, so I had to find the perfect spot.  After half an hour or so of flying around the map, I found it, and built the Shrine in context to the location.

Next was picking the palette.  I used the off-white blocks such as quartz to blend with the cloud well.  A few accents of stone put some foundation.  The blue glass is my favorite - the color blue symblizes the sky and wind, and the glass gave the feeling of mystery and elegance.

Lighting was considered as well.  The place looks pretty good at night too.

The Helm of the Western Wind was fun to build.  Getting the shape "freehand" was a bit challenging.

All in all I'd say the Shrine is something I'm proud of.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and look at The Shrine of Aeolus! Keep on building!
DIAMONDS AND FEEDBACK WOULD BE AWESOME!!
