Just thought I would try building a Smurf like house, but I didn't want to use the traditional red and white top.

Feel free to use it as you like so long as I get credit.

I built a new version of this cottage from scratch to make sure the redstone lamps fit into the walls properly. Still not sure about the color choices - I think I like the prismarine blocks too much. I also didn't add spots this time and I'm not sure if I want to put them back or not.

Looks good Toadie, maybe add some redstone lamps insted of the torches, deffo on the underside of that cap, will make it glow at night :)

Yea I had used some sea lanterns for the inside and the tops of some of those are exposed outside, but I had noticed it ddn't give off much light. The sea lanterns kind of blend in too and I'm thinking that different colors for the mushroom cap might work better. But so far even as it is I think it looks better than the peasant huts I built for my Agaricus map project. That map might get a complete over haul as I get better with design.

That looks alot better Toadie, I find the lamps give a more crisp defined light then torches, could almost picture papa smurf walking out

In this particular case I think the redstone lamps worked out best. I hadn't considered the type of lighting, I only used what fits with the structure or the color scheme asthetically. I read that and realize it might make only partial sense. Basically if I didn't build a wall right to hold a lamp or lantern well then I place a torch.

I think the second version came out bigger, making it feel less cramped inside which is good, but my oldest son says it doesn't look right without a red mushroom top. While I don't want it to be an exact replica of the Smurfs' homes, I do get what he is saying.
