Now 2005, It has been over a decade since the SS American Star has called the beaches of Fuerteventura home. Looted by locals, further vandalised by the wind, sea, and further human interventions, The interiors of the ship are a sad sight. The Stern had since succumbed to the elements in 1996, leaving only a vague outline on the seabed. The Bow itself is now not looking too good either. The sea has wreaked havoc at the new "stern" of the wreck, causing about 20 metres of B deck and lower to collapse into the sea, leaving the upper structure and funnel in a seemingly supernatural position. And if that didn't seem worrying enough, A hole within her no.2 hold appeared in 1999, and has since grown ominously, extending up to no.1 hold. Further back, on the port side, this hole has extended to well under the promenade deck some metres above. The entirety of the waterline area of the ship is virtually hollow, save for the forepeak and two massive steel girders that keep the entire "stern" suspended in the air. It is a precarious position for the integrity of the ship, and a simple storm could knock her over at any point.
Once again, the ship is located on Nanocraft, use //warp americanstar to find both the 1995 version and the 2005 version.
A special thanks to four people:
CJClow as a second opinion and reference gatherer, as well as taking the pictures of the wreck with his shaders
Wessel as another picture-taker and horrified on-looker as i wasted a week of my life building a beach.
Nano, also known as TheOfficialNano, for small pushes here and there.
Jish - for bringing me to Nanocraft, and for sharing a passion for this ship with me.
A final extra thanks to USSR_Lifer who took an extra two pictures of the ship from afar at my behest.
This project (including as yet unseen SS America, RHMS Australis, and SS Alferdoss models) has taken 2 weeks out of my life and i ask you could take a moment to truly appreciate what a sight this would've been in the early 2000s.
