After many years playing minecraft, I want to share with you this house I usually build next to the road during the explorations.
I firmly believe in exploring while being safe and this house is a reflect on that:

Requirements:
- Easy to find materials: I use what is around me.
- Good visibility: windows are wide enough.
- Defendable: it has a rooftop from which you can snipe mobs away.
- Utilitary: it has everything you need, like a sub there is room for everything (except a mistake).
- Aesthetic: I like to think it is a nice house.
Characteristics:
- All around fence (4 blocks from walls) for allowing to sleep even surrounded by mobs.
- In the interior, the very basics: bed, crafting table, oven, and chest.
- Rooftop equipped with trunks to take cover from skeleton's arrows.
- Basement with: second bed, enchanting table (with bookcases), anvil, brewing stand, and a mini wheel (for infinite water supply).
