Hello everyone, hope you have been doing great. Today I bring you my recreation of the rare CP 270 series steam locomotive. Hope you like it!



It was quite an hard engine to make due to the lack of information and pictures, since so few were produced.


This project features the CP 270 series, with full cab and interior details, buit to 3:1 scale.


History:

Following the 220 series, this engine shares many of the characteristics of it, except for one major change, the wheel arrangement. In order to run on Portugal’s most twisted mountain tracks, a big focus was put on articulation. Their solution: to put the drive wheels under the tender and on the engine some bogies. Because of that, her turning radius is extremely small. This change led to some interesting side-effects. The steam pipe that was driven back through the boiler and over the firebox led to the delivery of very hot, superheat, dry steam to the pistons, increasing force. Then the weight of the tender gave for some high amount of traction at the start. Unfortunately, as an experimental engine, only 4 locomotives were ever produced, none of which survived to this day. The adaptation of only interior cylinders did survive, on the 280 series.
