Hello everyone! How are you doing? It’s been a very long time since my last post. I have been really struggling and busy with university, but I finally caught a break and was able to finish this one. I also have some more plans I hope to get going soon!
I think this is quite a unique locomotive. Even though it is a small meter gauge engine, she is able to give an impression of size and speed. Also, with the oddly mix of the modern look and presence of smoke deflectors that make it quite distinct of other meter gauge engines. The wheel arrangement is also quite large, and the overall compactness of the engine was a challenge.
This project features the CP E160 series, with full cab and interior details, buit to 3:1 scale.
As always, I hope you like it and to get your feedback! Thank you!
Make sure you give a look at the many renders.
These engines were a class of narrow-gauge tank locomotives utilized by the ‘Companhia dos Caminhos de Ferro do Norte de Portugal’ and, later, by ‘Companhia dos Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses - CP’.
Ordered in 1931, they were built by Henschel & Sohn and started operation in the same year. They were the only locomotives to be bought by the ‘Companhia do Norte’ before it became ‘CP’ and the last narrow-gauge class to enter service in Portugal.
They ran on the Porto to Póvoa and Famalicão line, and allowed for much faster trains, besides a more regular and confortable service.
A total of four locomotives were bought and operated. Initially to 900mm gauge and later in 1927 changed to the standard of 1000m with the expansion of the line, before being integrated in ‘CP’ in 1947. Nowadays engine E144 was preserved and can be seen in a static display at the railway museum of Lousado.
