Back-story: The Elves of Lor-Thremor caverns were a peaceful people; they had fled the surface long ago, to avoid the pointless wars of man. Long had the elves journeyed in darkness, spending generations in the dank caverns of the lower world. Ever onward they walked, and as they did, a peculiar thrum began to sound in their ears: guiding them, pulling them; until finally, as the thrum died out, they found themselves at the gateway to a paradise. Though still underground, grass and crops flourished, animals grew healthy and strong, and at the heart of it all, the great blue crystal. The elves called it Lot-Rethoth, or savior, in their language. And it truly was, it had brought a once great people back from the edge. A village flourished around the crystal, providing food and warmth for the elves. A great city sprang up across the bank. a city dedicated to protecting the majestic crystals of the cavern.
But the world of man could never truly be left behind. Generations after the first settlers found the cavern, great tremors began to shake the heart of the city. It was said, that if one listened close enough, gruff voices could be heard shouting commands in the dead of night. Then one day, it happened, what will go down as the worst tragedy in elven history, as this paradise was breached. With the simple push of a plunger, a human deep-mining operation stumbled unto something they never would have expected. through the dusty hole blown out of the wall, the two races stared in shock at each other. The elves, long forgotten on the surface, were viewed as monsters by the humans. And being how humans are, they quickly drew arms on the passive elves, and quickly attacked. The once peaceful city ran red. The land wept, the once healing water, was now turbulent and burning. the grass tearing away from the soil, leaving it barren and sundered. and as mankind moved further, factories were set up; polluting the once clean air with smog. the crystal clear water now clogged with refuse. The elves had fled the humans before, but now there was nowhere to run. As man moved closer, the elves barricaded their village, and prepared to make a stand. and as the caverns beauty died around them, the elves only wished that mankind could see. That this, is the price of industry.
Steve's View: Steve never really had much of a concern for the earth. Gleefully stripping the earths riches from the stone. cutting down the forests to build his luscious mansions. But as the tunnel collapsed around him, as the floor gave out, and smoke flooded the cavern. He looked on in horror at what was being wrought below him. As Steve looked back and saw his furnace gleefully burning, cooking the pork that would be his dinner. All he could see was what was going on below him. as the fire crackled in the tiny furnace, the image conjured in his mind was no longer one of home, or a nice warm meal. But one of the engines of war below; of the massive kilns burning the wood from the ravaged forests; The smog filtering up to the roof of the cavern and burning his eves. His chests of diamond and gold no longer seemed as important to him, as he saw what his species greed could do. And as he turned away from the scene below, and began his journey home. He grew more satisfied with what he had, because, he thought to himself, nothing is worth the price of what had happened below.

I hope you all enjoy my entry to this contest, it was a really fun challenge, and i had a lot of fun doing it. There's still a bit of work i want to do to it though. Diamonds and favorites are always appreciated though. :D| Progress | 100% complete |
