The Tu-104 (Tupolev-104) is the first Soviet jet—powered passenger aircraft, and the third in the world, after the British De Havilland Comet and Avro Canada C102 Jetliner. In the first two years of its operation, from 1956 to 1958, the Tu-104 was the only operated jet passenger aircraft in the world due to the termination of De Havilland Comet flights in the summer of 1956 and before the introduction of the American Boeing 707 into commercial operation in October 1958.
