Flying sequence (page 2/2)
1: Go to the stations
2: Enter a ready-to-depart cart
3: Turn around to press the stone button
4: Depart, see the station disappearing
5: See the destination appearing
6: Enter the station & walk over the pressure plate
7: Turn around to see your cart returning
8: See your cart disappearing in its way back
With these flying carts I can fully separate the two layers. With that, they can live effective isolated from each other, yet living above/under each other
Think of a neighborhoods you wouldn’t want to be in daytime or nighttime
Think of a neighborhood were materialistic richer people live
Ever complained about a public space that is not taken care of
Ever decided to visit an “supposedly” unkempt/overgrown public space with a fixed date

Welcome to my contest entry for the
“Procedural Metropolis Contemporary Edition Project Contest”
This entry is based upon two pillars:
To create a sharp contrast from the ‘Imagine’ part. Seeing those lines in an actual footage of days gone by inside a museum about a former colony of my country. That particular shot left a lasting impression on me. To do this, I stacked both types of neighborhoods on top of each other.
The second pillar is the method of transportation. For this I needed to work/cheat around the limitations of the infinity city engine/system. Which I personally wanted to challenge anyway (sorry Gheppio)
See below my interpretation:
(Those are in essence all valid for all builds in this pack)
Neighborhood location
Living high and free of earthly shackles
Living down to earth
Transportation
Clean automated standardized transportation with luxury stations
Whatever works: walking, cycling, bus or a car. Storm or no storm.
A dime never becomes a quarter
(please ignore the stone button)
When you fall down, you use your connections to get back up through the door
You spend all your life to get higher up, through the only door available, yet it won’t open
Living conditions
(every house/room is decorated)
Spacious with separate bathroom, easy to walk stairs, etc.
Cramped, only the basics and tiresome ladders vertical upwards
Shopping
Cleandiverse shops next to each other with well-tended greenery
Small shops in different places with untended green outside
And more:
We have a nursery where our health can be checked up
We work through colds and fever as we have no nursery
To keep in shape we sport, swimming, track running or play basketbal
We don’t need that, climbing vertical stairs, walk/cycle our way etc,

Nice to know this kind of description is working out, first time I went this far on terms of presentation of the description.
The description was definitely a good decision - as the overwhelming positive response to it should show - and going this far was absolutely worth the effort. :)
Looking forward to exploring your builds in person and I know I'll be seeking out your builds in the community map to see if they'll happen to link up with another!
A certain thing I will be doing to.
By the way, glad you went on to make a contest with those replicating technology you mentioned in the live-stream of Gheppio. I wouldn't mind to have more of these in future.

Now I understand why you asked me if your build would have been placed all together in the final city. Don't worry, there will be for sure aligned buildings in the cities where your transportation network will work fine! Anyways all the other flying machines will probably pierce through the builds of other participants if used XD
Keep in mind that the fact of having the build set placed in random locations, and potentially not all together, is not a limitation of the system, but a key design choice that ensures variety in the road network's topology. In this way the system has the possibility to assign as better as possible land portions to the most fitting building type so that all the land assignments interlock perfectly when passed to the constructor modules!
Anyway, as I said, in every city there will be for sure also aligned docking bays and I love the idea of moving between your builds through them! I will have to check that the flying machines are placed correctly by structure blocks and not accidentally activated in the process! Did you encounter any problems with the rotated versions?
The shape of your builds is very peculiar, and I like the concept of the two-faced environments. I also appreciate that you completed all the interior environments and the project presentation is super detailed!!
Yep, the flying machine system was the reason. Also the reason about building above the slab border for orientation, to line the bays out. The piercing ability of these ones are rather disappointing though. But creating a different transportation system that does not rely on the roads was the first thing I tackled before moving on with the rest (of course defining height and positioning first).
Yep it sure will be a nice thing to look forward to see if the bays are linking up with each other + clear line of sight.
Regarding working with flying machines inside the structure blocks:
+ NEVER WORK/TEST THOSE WITH THE "HOUSE ROTATOR" ON
- It is annoying to chase down per accident activated one as those keep on spawning till you turn the rotator off.
+ I did encounter one bug I haven't been able to reproduce (https://imgur.com/a/w51PR7Q)
- It happened on ALL flying machines on ALL the rotated buildings on ALL sides. So I have no clue how all those half duplicated flying machines were created.
+ All the bays are aligned nicely so you can flying to all the rotated buildings (just don't have the "house rotator" on).
I do hope it is not to much work I have given you by this system ;-)
Ah yes, I wanted to go for less cubism, meaning the lower ones have to cramp/adapt to whatever space they have. What is fitting for the theme.
And boy, I did wonder halfway if I wasn't to ambitious with this entry, still needing to decorate everything.
By the way, have you ever thought of differentiating upper and lower neighborhoods even more clearly by using stained glass of different colors for the windows/domes?
Talking about implementation instead...
I tested your builds today and flying machines, and sadly they aren't very plug & play: since they work on block updates, the fact of placing a flying machine itself activates parts of it!
I know exactly what caused your "bug", I also know why it happened everywhere and why you weren't able to reproduce it. What can be seen in the picture is only the byproduct of how minecraft's block update algorithm works in the last versions. If you want I can explain more in detail and more technically what happened there in your builds!
The good thing is, I can handle every aspect of it! It will require additional mechanisms, but I already have some ideas on how to realize them in the most efficient possible way so that it won't require me too much effort.
I will make it possible :-)
