Story continued with theme provided by the contest.

With the Earth behind him and vast space in front, Steve piloted his spaceship into the deep blackness that was his galaxy. For many months he searched the emptiness for the Winged Ones, who had originally inspired his adventure into space, but to no avail. He scanned the surfaces of planets he found, observed faraway stars in search of life, but he found nothing. Finally, one day, with his spaceship low on fuel and morale lower than ever, he descended to the surface of a dark, rocky planet. His sensors had detected the air was breathable, and he had little choice in the matter as it would not be long before his spaceship was out of fuel and left to drift.

Suddenly, as he descended through the planet's atmosphere, a gargantuan storm arose out of nowhere and smashed his ship with rain, hail, heavy winds, and debris. His ship was tossed about like a rag doll until finally, lightning struck the metal hull, and the ship's power was lost. He fell to the surface of the planet.

Steve awoke, lying on some sort of hard surface. He was afraid to open his eyes, not wanting to see the wreckage of his ship he had worked so hard to build. He slowly opened his eyes, only to huge surprise as he realized he was not in a shipwreck on the rocky planet; he was somewhere else entirely. The explosion from his spaceship crashing into the planet combined with the powerful storm raging around him had caused a rift in the time-space continuum, and Steve had been brought to an alternate dimension; Steve was in the Nether. As he gazed about the dark sky and fiery land, he realized that the Nether was not the horrible, uncivilized wasteland he had thought it to be; someoneo ¦ somethingo ¦ lived here, and had built an empire here that is capable of holding back even the Nether. He also did not know how they managed to acquire water in a dry, dark and desolate land such as the Nether as he drank some of it to regain some of what his body has lost in its ordeal being put here; and yet somehow when he looked around he realized that this land is like a desert well and all as abandoned as one at the same time. When he looked around he saw no proud people of any kind to great him and tell their story. All there was, was Zombie Pigmen quietly staring at him as though they knew what happened yet could not or wish not to tell. Perhaps they were the people turned into something as the Zombie Pigmen as punishment for something or hatred of another possibly evil turned them into this. This is of course speculation as Steve continued walking through the empty roads only hearing the usual noises of the Nether such as feared distant Ghast cries perhaps crying for the lost or for the fact they are the lost. The Zombie Pigmen grunting as though Steveo s presence is a discomfort to them. He saw all the buildings around him and questioned why many of them were there and what they were used for besides the obvious like houses still as intact and clean as the days when they were used to house whatever was here. He also noticed the scale of many of the building and knew no unorganized tribe or anything of the sort could construct things like these.

This place had leadership, but perhaps not of the usual kind. He then proceeded to notice the glowing temple atop a mountain that as almost as though it is trying to claim it. The mountain and the evil of the nether wanted it and not any of the cityo s contents below or any of its impressive structures or possessions. At one time the temple most likely stood on its own desire but that was a different time when whatever was here existed here. Most of the temple and its lower levels have been taken forcefully by the Nether. Yet somehow the whole of the temple has not been taken as though it has been pushing back the Nether and its evil with some sort of good so Steve continued towards the temple and its massive staircase. He then reached the base of the staircase and saw the water fountain and the lava inside almost containing the evil and burning within the barrier and bringer of life such as water. Almost as though what this place was doing for its former inhabitants and is still managing to do especially for Steve. He continued towards and up the stairs passing by the farm building and water storage building wondering how they were accomplished. When he reached the top he was tired with his head down to look up and see a shrine of some sort. A shrine which defies the Nether and all of its principles on life somehow, It was a shrine made of plant life. Trees of many sorts and there corresponding parts relying on water, soil, yet somehow manages to thrive here in extreme dryness as well. This is when Steve realized this place is not the work of a man of his sorts but some other force that was not on his home planet. Magic perhaps, Gods, Deals with the Nether? He continued thinking until he realized that he is not going to find a solid answer for himself. The books in this land all seem to have their words taken from them almost similar to how the empire created had its creators taken from it. Perhaps though the empire didno t, perhaps they have been taken for a purpose expected or for the better; for this is no one but Steveo s empire now, and perhaps that is for the better or has always been meant to be.
