The XB-70 Valkyrie was the largest bomber (in terms of length) and fastest bomber ever built. Designed by North American Aviation and built with the help of various companies, the XB-70 was supposed to be the replacement for the B-52 strategic bomber. As many as 250 Valkyries were to be built, however, the program was cancelled due to cost overruns and a change in strategy to ICBMs and Low-Altitude bombers. The XB-70 could reach speeds over Mach 3 and altitudes over 75,000 ft. It was planned to use the GAM-87 (then the XGAM-87) Skybolt Air-Launched Ballistic Missile. It would have been able to carry as many as three of them, all armed with 1-megaton thermonuclear warheads. Both the XB-70 and GAM-87 never entered service.
The XB-70 in the build is XB-70 AV-2, tail number 62-0207, which crashed in June of 1966 after colliding with a NASA F-104N Starfighter, resulting in the deaths of Joseph Walker (F-104N Pilot) and Carl Cross (XB-70 Co-Pilot), and the loss of both the starfighter and Valkyrie. Al White, the XB-70 Pilot, was seriously injured.
Dimensions: 564 Long, 321 wingspan, 91 tall.
This project is easily my largest I have ever done, with over 50 hours of work (This is also my first time rendering a build using Blender :D). I began this project for the Minecraft Military Force Cold War competition in late June of 2021. However, it is not finished. I have a multitude of things to work on, but the exterior of the build is done. Here's what I still have to do:
Bomb Bay
Cockpit Interior
Nose Gear Bay
Landing Gear Bay
Undercarriage Detailing
Angled Wingtips
Nose in Down-Position
There will not be a download for this build.
All renders are done by myself.
You can check out this and some of my other builds on the Military Builders server, at my plot world in the 10:1 area. Do NOT use this build without crediting me, and do NOT claim this as your own.
