The canal between districts in Verdisio

Introduction:

Myraeon was originally created to showcase the features and the exciting new developments that came with the long awaited 1.7. Now, three years later, Myraeon has now been fully updated to Spigot 1.9, retaining the player-built builds and towns born of rich and intense RP.

Some things remain the same. Our map has not drastically changed; 15,000 x 15,000 blocks now the canvas for player made towns, epic PVP battles, and detailed emotional RP. The vast expanses of land remain, much of it still untouched; you can escape society and live as you wish, if you so choose. Our beautiful cities now hold three more years of story, of politics, and reflect the wealth and society of the people and players within.

Chances are still hidden everywhere for adventure and discovery. A whole hidden history is just waiting to be uncovered and a whole new story awaiting creation with every step you take and every block you lay. Dark forces move beneath the surface, though, and the ancient legacy of the Myraeic empires has begun to shift in its sleep. Three years have passed, and now a new chapter is starting in Myraeon’s story. Will your character be a part of it?

Upon the shining waters in the great bay in the west lies the city of Verdisio. The Glittering City never sleeps, its great port a berth for merchant’s ships from around the world and a bastion of refuge. Verdisio is a place of advancement, thought, and science as well as the fine arts, and the city is the considered the preferred place of talented, inspired men and women across the land. Because of this, today’s Verdisio stands tall upon the shoulders of the most innovative people the world has known.

Throughout the years, Verdisio has grown and expanded from a small settlement at the mouth of the river to the grand metropolis it is today. It both grew up unto the hills on the shore and out into the bay itself, with canals replacing streets in the lower city, and grand keep-mansions erected for noblemen in the upper. The dazzling Keep Ladrian watches over it all, the polished marble walls and giant glass windows reflecting the light of the sun. The Ladrian’s rule extends over the northern half of the continent, watching over the riverlands and forests from mountain range to mountain range. Though the wilderness of the continent is untamed and harsh, Verdisio and the other towns within the kingdom will always offer safe havens for all.

One of the most ancient cities in Myraeon, Verdisio had been ruled in benevolence by an unbroken line of Lords and Kings by the name of Ladrian, only matched in their mystery by the the noble Houses of the aristocracy. Had been, that is.... Of late, there has been no small amount of political intrigue surrounding the ruling House. King Ladrian passed, his Heir Daughter ascending the Throne - but amidst whispers of murder and conspiracy, the former Count of Ironwood has assumed the mantle of Regency.

A relatively recent addition to the lands of Myraeon, Rimefjell started as an ambitious trading outpost. Funded and developed by the merchant known only as Coleridge, Rimefjell’s initial success was largely due to its proximity to Nihon during one of its social and economic booms. Becoming a close advisor to the Daimyo of Sogen, Keitara Thet Al’Rai, Coleridge leveraged the position to bring in both wealth and workers to Rimefjell.

Carved into the very mountain range itself, Rimefjell took its name from them. The entire reason, seemingly, for Coleridge to choose to delve into a mountain to construct a city was to build a large and secure bank. Perhaps his business acumen determined that it was easier to have people invest in him and his bank rather than work to provide services as a merchant. Whatever the reason, Rimefjell now boasts the only internationally accessible and state-sponsored banking establishment: the Rimefjell Vault.

As investors trickled in, Rimefjell steadily expanded into a developed and recognized independent state. Focusing on industry and bureaucracy in equal parts, Rimefjell established itself as the sole power in the frozen North. It has slowly expanded its influence Westward as it makes a shift from economic pressures to military enforcement. With no other force to contest it in the North, it seems likely that Rimefjell will soon exert economic, political, and military control over and from the entirety of the Northern lands. Visitors need not beware any oppressive military presence so long as they bring the proper paperwork and passports.

In the desert to the South, there is a town with a history shrouded in mystery. Ancient texts recovered from the ruins suggest that its story begins as a large, sacred cemetery in use by the Myraeon of old. It was used in that civilization’s very first days, with the dead being brought there from aacross the desert to be buried deep underground. As time progressed, some began to settle in the area above. The small group of huts grew over the years, and eventually became a bustling city of cultural importance. Its use as a cemetery had ceased, the only evidence of it being the information left behind by those that had used it in such a way. As time progressed, the trees in the city temple grew larger, and became a beacon of oasis in the middle of the desert. When the Myraeonic people disappeared, the city remained, abandoned for centuries, as all but the central temple crumbled into sand.

More recently, some people resettled the area and kept it under control for some time, but it was not to last. Droughts, plagues, and starvations led to chaos as people began to kill each other off to survive. Since then, the built around the temple in the desert has been the center of illicit trade and dark practices, a lawless hub of the world. Whoever has the most power rules, and control of the land is always shifting as new groups kill off old ones, only to be replaced themselves soon after. The fall of laws pertaining to the city’s trade come soon after, and becoming the beating heart of a black market. While it may be a violent and dangerous place to live, some people flock there to escape their problems, whether those should be debts, the law, or other people. While it may seem foolish, it is very effective, as no individual in their right mind would dare pursue anyone into such a city of darkness. In these days, harsh sandstorms cover most of the place, lying beneath as a prize for the first warlord to come and claim it.

World, Towns, and Further Lore

The continent of Myraeon is huge and beautiful, with widely varying terrain and geography. Upon this canvas, characters have lived, built, warred, loved, and died. There are many other large towns offering their own RP, from the technological and industrial powerhouse of Ironwood, to the secluded site of the Arcane Institute at the Vale. Regardless of the stories, though, and no matter your character, you are sure to find a place that is perfect for you.

Further Lore

There is much more lore, on towns and more, available readily on the forums, and even more hidden in the world, waiting to be discovered.

Combat and Skills
Introduction
A while back, we had a class-based system powered by the plugin SkillAPI. Written by Enripsa96, the plugin then allowed us to build our own skills and classes and tweak as we go. Months have passed, and though we did experiment with some other options, the new, updated SkillAPI stood out as remarkably powerful, user-friendly, and the overall best choice for Myraeon. All functions of classes, skills, and professions on Myraeon will be powered by SkillAPI from here on out!

Our System

We did like our previous organization -- everything was in its place, players had some options to choose from, etc. However, in the deliberation for our new system, the prevailing theme was RP above all -- and for skills, that means customization. We want each character to have the option for a unique set of traits and abilities, reflecting that character’s individual story. For that reason, we chose a Classless system, where all passives, basic abilities, and many ultimate abilities are available to all players in one pool!

Choosing skills should feel like a “mix and match” instead of clicking the next upgrade in a tree. You could decide to branch out and grab something from each different discipline, or decide to hone in and focus on a few specific skills, maxing and mastering them. Each basic ability will have three tiers -- each successive one after the first improving and buffing the ability.

Your “Class” is called “Player”, and follows a semi-standard levelling pattern, up to a maximum level of 99. Experience usually comes from killing hostile monsters, but might also show up after a particular event, task, or quest. Each level attained grants one skill point, to be saved or spent on skills! You’ll start at level 10, with enough points to purchase one passive to start.
The pool of skills follows a pattern of archetypes, drawing from the classical list of Warrior, Archer, Rogue, Mage, Healer. Not all skills fit perfectly in one of these archetypes, but in general they are organized as such. Furthermore, the skills within the same archetype will often interact with each other -- using multiple archer skills together, for example, will lead to a much greater effect than each skill used separately. The archetype organization comes into greater play when you start to reach the higher levels and more powerful skills -- each ultimate is tied to an archetype, and requires the character to have chosen the passive within the same archetype. The Greater Healing Circle, for example, requires the passive Blessing. Since the passives are expensive, you’ll need to choose wisely! For more in-depth detail on skills, our forums post is just a short link away!

4 Update Logs

---- Mini Event ---- : by Myraeon 05/01/2018 12:18:18 pmMay 1st, 2018

Bandits of the desert either fight between themselves or get greedy, biting off more than they can chew before being slaughtered by whatever prey they assumed was an easy target.

On occasion, however, Tribes of bandits work together, then combine and grow into much larger threats, destroying caravans and making raids on the Oasian farms.

On occasions such as this it is not uncommon to see flyers for mercenary recruitment being posted all around the main cities and noticeboards of Myraeon, some flyers even manage to find their way into Nihon.

These flyers read- "Due to recent large scale raids on Oasian sand we are now hiring Mercenaries.
Temporary job, no contracts, just 30k for the group that deals with the bandit threat. The meet up spot will be in the Bounty hunting service."

---------------------------
Note: Event will be heavy PvE based.
Injuries and character death may occur

This Wednesday at 6PM EST - Finished

From our own Coleridge:

Principles of Economy Design

When I was tasked with making this guide, I thought I would make a simple list of sorts of the different ways of making money and the RP reasoning a player could use for any one of them. But as I’ve thought more about it, I decided to take the opportunity to discuss not just the ‘what’ of the economy, but the ‘how’ and ‘why.’ I’ll include my e-mail address at the end if you have any specific questions regarding the decisions I’ve made regarding the economy or in-game moneymaking. However, since I can’t expect everyone to share my love of spreadsheets and design principles, I’ll first cover the ways that a player could make money for the impatient people out there.

Here’s a quick list, with RP reasoning following each item:

1. "Singleplayer" Minecraft
Use vanilla mechanics to farm, mine, or fish materials from the world, and then sell the yield to the various Adminshops placed around the map. You’ll find Adminshops inside labeled shop districts inside buildings or stalls, and they have an infinite capacity. Items bought and sold to such a shop vanish.
  • RP it as a hunter-gatherer, a miner, a farmer, or just doing odd jobs for an NPC that you made up. It’s been common practice for players to do this during off-peak hours or in between RP sessions. Your character doesn't need to be a miner in RP in order to gain money through mining while not RPing.

2. "Merching" and Trade Routes
Buy from one shop and sell to another. There are designed differences between various shops throughout the world to allow for trading as a merchant or similar. Some trading routes offer larger margins than others.
  • As mentioned, you can RP this as a merchant or filling out a contract for an NPC.

3. Fast Travel
Go through the various steps that you’d need to gain ownership of a fast travel route. Anyone can do this, but there are significant hoops to jump through. Ownership of such a route gets you a cut of the payment for each trip. I won’t go into too much more detail, but feel welcome to ask me or any other staff member about this point.
  • The process by which you get the fast travel set up provides RP reasoning enough.

4. Player Interaction
Get paid by a player. Sell person to person something of value, fulfill a contract for building materials to assist in a project in exchange for payment, or perform a job or provide a service for a player. Oftentimes, cities and towns will have lists of jobs posted; town leaders will always have work to be done.
  • RP reasoning for this point will vary depending on the player. If it makes sense for your character to do any of the above listed, RP it as such or ask around for who is hiring.

5. Capitalism
Get a loan/gain interest. There exists one bank on the server at the time of this writing, and it offers loans and interest on deposits. You may have to jump through some hoops to receive or qualify for a loan, but there exists information on the forums regarding the bank as well as characters in game that can tell you more about it.
  • While the forum post regarding this banking establishment goes into greater detail, anyone could feasibly receive a loan or gain interest on a deposit. The former will almost certainly require more RP on the player’s part.

6. Entrepreneurship
Own a player shop that sells items that players want. Spend your time stocking the chest shop to ensure players can purchase from it reliably.
  • If your character would feasibly produce something or farm it, you may have a shop to sell those items after going through the RP to earn that shop.

We have begun the implementation of the dynamic economy update. Trading will become more viable as the rollout continues, and the economy itself should be more robust and flexible to events that occur on the server. With any luck this will bring a much needed spark to some cities that need some love, as some items will only be available in certain locales, unless you're willing to pay an exorbiant price!
