It is the 5th Era, nearly 1,000 years since the tragic end of the Dark Ages, the oral history of the disasters that befell Eyumel has long since passed into legend, and now only rubble and rumor remain. Yet while Eyumel may be mired in the past far across the sea, a technological and magical revolution has begun.

Fire and Steel ignite with a dangerous discovery. Smoke billows from the reaction as the boom of thunder echoes across the open skies. The age of the Musket has come. A devastating weapon in the proper hands. Capable of striking fear into the bravest of men and felling the most deadly of beasts. This invention marks the beginning of an age of conquest, An Age of Progress, though the costs are uncertain.

Elsewhere the ruminations of learned scholars, clever thinkers, whimsical ne'er-do-wells, and devote holy men have lead the world into a new age of magical exploration. Four mindsets pervade this new age.

Each seeks to use magic for some purpose, none can agree on what it should be, and some don't even believe it can have one. Regardless of station, race, or creed, the depths of magic have opened wide for all to drink from. Though all may not be as it seems, for where there is exploration there are obstacles to overcome.

Several years following the end of the Dark Ages; the scars of calamity still bear their horrible toll upon the land of Eyumel. While the people of Alyria begin their own technological revolutions, far across the sea, Eyumel has found the light of civilization once again. The disparate peoples of the continents, from the Argnal of the Horndall, to the Felkata and the Human tribes, new light has once again found itself into the heart of Eyumel, the realm of Aldria.



New Knave, so called after its namesake that fell nearly a thousand years ago at the beginning of the age of calamities, has become the new center of civilization. New advances and innovations in magic have blossomed forth and yielded a new rennaissance. Magical tools; in the form of magitech guns, and spell-crafting implements have advanced not only humankind but the whole of Eyumel forth. Those lost and abandoned have deigned to welcome the call of civilization once more, and spread forth from the new city of light towards the rest of the continent, to reclaim it from the darkness and the welling forth of magical beasts and phenomena.



However, darkness rises. From the remains of ancient cities to the remnants of the great swelling of old knave, and the ever-expanding taint of the Morire forest. While the Sovereignty stands to hold back the tides of these forces, it is simply a matter of time until the tide breaks forth; there is no doubt that the races and the civilizations that will soon follow in the wake of the Sovereignty’s success will face much hardship still in this era of Enlightenment.



Yet, where there is great reward, so too is there great danger. For in the darkest depths of Aria lie's an ancient slumbering darkness, one that is only now beginning to awaken.



Only time will tell whether the light of civilization will be extinguished yet again, or whether this era of enlightenment shall prove the everlasting dominance of the races of Aria.
