After the Irish Civil War, the Republic of Ireland created its defense forces to defend against any future British invasion. The uniforms they use were a combination of British-style and German-style uniforms, with a green cuff and collar to signify Ireland. They also wore a helmet which was a copy of the German M16 Stahlhelm, which was made by the Vickers Company, which caused it to be given the nickname of the "Vickers Helmet". This was partially because of the highly practical design, but also may have been partially just to spite the British.
