The African white-backed vulture is a very curious and intriguing animal. As for prey the African white-backed vulture (now on referred to as AWBV) is quite standard. The AWBV feeds on already dead animals, that usually die on account of lack of thirst, and often travels in packs so that it has a greater chance of success. The only difference as far as prey is the AWBV usually feeds on larger animals (i.e. The AWBV can fly for hours straight just searching for a meal to devour. The AWBV only lays one egg during breeding season, which is different from many other birds who tend to lay many eggs at once. The adult AWBV's wingspan tends to extend somewhere from 6-7 feet. It usually weighs somewhere between 9-16 pounds and is roughly three feet long. Like other vultures, the AWBV's only down feathers are located on it's head and neck. Originally people believed it was quite common, but after further assesment in 2007, it was moved to the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List of near threatened species. Later, in 2012 the species was further moved to the endangered list. This lack of population is due to habitat loss, poisoning, electrocution on electrical pylons, drowning in reservoirs, and illegal hunting. Luckily some protected areas in Africa, such as Serengeti National Park, have decided to protect and nurture this dying species.
Hope you enjoy my African white-backed vulture skin, make sure to favorite and give me a diamond for my hard work!
(P.S. The eyes are on the side of the head).
