august is violet's best friend! she was born into a functional, loving family, where she was homeschooled until 2nd grade, when she started attending the local public school. august had a hard time making friends. this was due to her lack of experience socially and also because the school had a lot of students, which overwhelmed her. as a result, august never made friends in elementary school. one of the common experiences that still scares her to think about are the memories of standing alone in the sea of students at lunchtime, knowing she would have to eat alone again. it was around this time that august noticed her ability to disappear, although she didn't have a lot of control over it. sometimes she wished to disappear from the shame of having no friends, and she disappeared exactly as she wished to. when she went invisible or flickered in and out of visibility, however, no one seemed to ever notice; another mark of august's loneliness. i should probably also mention that august knew she at least liked girls and was probably lesbian, since she had a couple crushes on girls in her class and never felt attraction to any guys.

august's grades in school were still excellent, and she was accepted into a nearby private middle school. there, she met violet and arun and came out of her shell, showing herself to be a social butterfly and developing great social skills. in middle school, she figured out how to control her invisibility better and only had brief spurts of flickering every once in a while when she was extremely stressed or anxious. it's worth noting that august still intermittently flickers, just less; training and personal efforts have done some, but not a lot, to help.

in middle school, nothing worth mentioning happened. with high school came more questioning in terms of gender identity and sexuality, and august concluded that she was lesbian. she also panicked a lot when arun told her and violet that he would be switching schools. her panic was pretty valid, since arun hasn't been in touch with either violet or august since he left. they've almost forgotten about each other. almost.

in august's first year of college (18, almost 19), conidae recruited her. she found out violet was already in the training program, and the two had a really fun sleepover as a sort of big reunion. they moved in with each other and stick to each other like superglue, being too nervous to reach out and make other friends. in training, august learned how to use blades in combat and thrived. she was always quite athletic and even found it fun, while a lot of other conidae newbies groan about it due to the rigorous and demanding nature of the training.

august works part-time in retail as a cashier. her now outgoing and bubbly nature lets her deal with tricky customers without too much trouble. and did i mention she has a huge sweet tooth? she'll blow her money on gummies and lollipops, or if she's craving for something more filling, pastries and other baked goods. violet also takes part in august's indulgences, but they somehow manage to pay off the rent each month, it's really a miracle.

other: she's tall (like 5'9) and gives violet piggyback rides a lot. still teases violet about being short sometimes, but only rarely because violet gets tired of it
