the Aztecs where actually a real tribe. they lived in Mexico, North America. There are a couple of temples from them that explorers are still searching for artifacts in. But the Europeans heard rumors about the Aztecs making cities of gold, so the Europeans traveled a long way and found the Aztecs.

This is maybe the saddest part of the story: The Europeans started to get into fights with the Aztecs, and spears and wood swords were no match for guns & cannons. 1 of the Europeans bought smallpox to the Aztecs, and many died. The last Aztecs remaining were captured as slaves.
