The word "Barbegazi" comes from the French barbe-glacée, meaning "frozen beard", and has origins in Swiss and French mythology.

They love areas such as the Alps, with high altitudes and low temperatures. They have been known to assist shepherds by returning lost sheep, and help other humans by giving low whistles to warn of danger or by digging them out of the snow. One of their favorite activities, if you will, is surfing avalanches on their famous large feet. In the Summer, they are known to hibernate in caves. In addition to this, they spend much of their time underground at high altitudes.
