Caliga Frigus translates to Warm Cold in Latin. The Caliga Frigus was created in a lab as a human/reptile hybrid. Several scientists had been investigating the subject of cross genetics in detail, and when three people were fatally injured in a car crash it was the perfect opportunity. After all, some reptiles were known to heal quickly and even regenerate limbs. If the procedure worked, these people would not only have participated in a huge scientific breakthrough but their wounds would be healed.

However, the procedure did not work as planned. The procedure did not account for the fact that humans are warm-blooded and reptiles are cold-blooded. This created a terrible mix where half the body is warm blooded and half is cold blooded. This caused tremendous strain on the body and the test subjects were driven insane by the pain. The test subjects' minds began to unravel until they had reached close to the equivalent the reptile brain.

The scientists tried to contain the creatures, but escaped nonetheless. Since the test subjects were 2 females and one male, they began to mate and their numbers multiplied exponentially. This constant breeding kept the species going even with the fact that the Caliga Frigus have a very short lifespan.

However, this new species was smart enough to realize that if they cooled their lower body to the same temperature as their lower body they could survive longer. This kept them going well enough until one member of the species decided to immerse herself entirely in ice cold water. Unfortunately for the species, this led to a sort of "lemming" effect among the Caliga Frigus, and almost all of the hybrid race perished.

A few lone Caliga Frigus still survive, quietly, waiting for the day when their species may rise again.
