Drifters. The plants of the air. They float above the clouds, draining water from them with their roots. Some of the water is used for energy and some is kept as ballast. Most of it though, is digested and converted to hydrogen to keep the drifter afloat. They are segmented inside, with hundreds of tiny hydrogen sacks. The hydrogen eventually leaks out of the sacks and they constantly need more water. During storms drifters drop their ballast and fly high above the clouds as not to be hit by lightning. Drifters produce spores to reproduce. They can stay on the same cloud for many months, being pulled along with the wind. When a drifter flies above a desert though, they often dry up and fall to the ground.
