Edmund was born in the city of Upperreach, and raised for most of his childhood there. At the age of thirteen, his parents were slain by the crime syndicate that ruled the nights over Upperreach, and Edmund was cast to the streets to fend for his own. For a time, at least. Within two months he found himself within the presence of a group dedicated to rooting out and killing the crime syndicate that ended the lives of Edmund's parents. They trained him, along with other men and women holding a grudge against the oppressive gang. When they believe they were ready, they attacked.

And failed.

Nearly every person who entered the main headquarters of the syndicate that night never made it out. Edmund, along with two other younger members, managed to flee the building, being pursued by dogs and men. If not for the intervention of a patrol of guards, the three would have been captured. The guards managed to kill or incapacitate every pursuer, and hauled Edmund and his accomplices in for questioning.

After three months, Edmund was released for suspicion of conspiring with the gang, and enlisted into Upperreach's military force. He was deployed in the nearby wastes named 'The Badlands', to fight the greenskin menace. Many of his allies died, but many more foes died. After a brutal four year campaign, Upperreach snatched the Badlands from the greenskins, driving them deep into the unforgiving gorges, ravines, and steppes of Hell's Span. The greenskins were caught between the armies of Upperreach and the denizens of Hell's Span, Ash Dwarves. They decided on flight, rather than fight, and evacuated as many civilians as possible, the warriors holding their ground to allow the civilians time to flee.

Eventually, every greenskin soldier that stayed behind was slain, and Edmund, along with the army of Upperreach, returned home.

To find smoldering ruins and ash. While the humans were defenseless, the ash dwarves used the deep ravines to pass by their army, laying waste to their city. The army split apart, various groups spreading all across the land, with no city or king to fight for.

Edmund traveled alone, defending himself from every peril he faced, until he reached an age where he could not alone, and he found evidence of a terrible catastrophe befalling another realm...
