Esuriet, The God of Famine and Decay
Before the first united kingdom of man revolted against the gods and their rule, Viridis was the god of all that bore fruit and was life-giving. He was the kind and forgiving god whose touch made the trees flower and crops grow. He was the lord of all sustenance. Yet once the gods stopped the revolt, man had to be punished. The almighty Fortis, head chief amongst the gods sent Viridis to punish man by destroying all of his crops, killing all of his livestock thus sending the rebellious humans into famine and death. Viridis being kind by nature would not obey, disobeying the orders of Fortis. Dismayed by the rejection, Viridis was to be punished, Fortis took him in his sleep to the highest mountain top of the ancient world, stripped him of his life-giving powers and blinded Viridis by gouging out his eyes. Cursed by Fortis, Viridis' hands were now only capable of death, turning all that was alive into rot. Fortis cast Viridis down from the mountain into the domain of man. He was given a new name, one that was not welcome any more amongst the gods. Esuriet, "The One Who Brings Hunger".
Ever since, Esuriet walks this earth blinded, covered in old rags. His body but a mere shadow of what he used to be he wanders aimlessly in the darkness, not knowing who he is or what his purpose in life is any more. And as he wanders so, all that he now touches dies under his fingers, decays and spreads disease. Not knowing this he walks from tree to tree, crop to crop, animal to animal. Unaware that he leaves a trail of death in his footsteps.
