One of the 12 Wyrmclan leaders of Hinomoto, Ieyasu leads the Boar Clan with the help of his vassals Addis and Sazanka, as well as his pactbound dragon Marishiten. Appearing as part of New Year's events, Ieyasu, like his fellow Wyrmclan leaders, is based on an important historical figure from Japan:
Tokugawa Ieyasu (徳川家康 / とくがわ いえやす, 31st January 1543 - 1st June 1616)
Tokugawa Ieyasu (first name Ieyasu) was one of the vassals of the powerful warlord Oda Nobunaga, who led the Oda clan through a mostly successful war to unify the country.
However, Nobunaga died after being ambushed by his former ally Akechi Mitsuhide, leaving his dream unfinished.
After Nobunaga's death, Ieyasu would rise (alongside fellow Nobunaga vassal Toyotomi Hideyoshi) to finish the job, making the small fishing village of Edo his base of operations.
In 1600, following Hideyoshi's death, Ieyasu would become Shogun, beginning the Tokugawa Shogunate which would last for about 250 years and mark the transition from the Sengoku (civil war) period into the peaceful Edo period. Edo would grow into the modern capital of Tokyo over the following centuries.
Ieyasu has one of my favourite designs in Dragalia Lost, I like how the Wyrmclan leaders use historical Japanese motifs and I think they're a decent opportunity to learn a bit about Japanese history. If you read my little summary of Tokugawa Ieyasu's life, I hope you enjoyed it.
