Khayr Ad-Din, Barbarossa, was the leader of the Navy of Ottoman Empire during the 16th Century. He led the Turks from Italia to Venice, fighting against the westerners. Sailing on the Mediterranean See, he brought the Empire from bottom to the top.

Hey ! I hope this summary will encourage you to learn more about Ottoman Empire, one of the greatest Empire of the 16th Century !
