When I was younger, I was forced to go with my parents to this New Years party, I didn't really want to go, but it didn't seem like I really had a choice.
Since I was still a child and wasn't very fond of staying with the adults, I was playing with my cousins and a couple of close friends. We laughed and played games while the adults we're outside talking over a bottle of champagne and occasionally glancing at the sky, searching for a sign that the fireworks were about to begin.
After a few of rounds of hide and seek, my cousin had an idea. Her idea was that one of us would be blindfolded while the others would hide. I thought it would be difficult to seek while blindfolded, so I attempted to duck out of sight while they were choosing, who did they pick?
Me of course.
She gently wrapped an old scarf around my eyes and tied a knot so it wouldn't fall off. All of a sudden, I felt her push me and then heard her run away. I began screaming, not knowing what to do, it felt like I was falling for centuries. Suddenly, I felt something soft and clean beneath my feet, grass, and not just any grass, it smelt like freshly cut summer grass. I thought this was odd, because it was the middle of winter.
I remembered that I still had the blindfold wrapped around my eyes and with some struggle, I managed to take it off. I began to take in my surroundings, I was in the middle of a seemingly deserted, empty field. It was dark and a thick cloud of fog made it difficult for me to make out any colours. In fact, this field seemed to lack colours completely, as if i had just stepped into an old disney movie, everything was in black and white.
After walking for a while in search of answers, a thought popped up in my head, a thought that would haunt me for a while, or maybe even forever.
What if I never find my way out of here?
