Men and Women's fashion in the Ottoman empire could look rather similar, especially among the common people. Although certainly settled urban people or farmers at this point, Ottoman fashion alluded to their nomadic horseman days. They typically wore baggy trousers and vests over baggy shirts, with a sash to tuck things in. Wearing different layers, tassels, decorative sashes, and hats were important. Although many women wore headscarves or light face veils, many others wore caps or Turbans like men instead. The issue for the common person seemed to be covering their head symbolically, rather than hiding their hair or face.
