The wraith, in Scottish folklore, is an undead spirit that's unable to pass on to the spirit realm. It haunts the living in order to pay forward the torture it has endured by perpetually roaming this land. Encountering a wraith in the forest is undoubtedly a bad omen, as wraiths linger around death as vultures do over roadkill...

I took this classic mythological creature and gave it my own touch. The tattered clothes of this wraith are encapsulated with roots and overgrowth. Despite the destructive power of the wraith, this one chooses to keep the constricting foliage over their spectral robes, perhaps to further their own suffering. The chain around the wraiths neck carries a blue gem in its centerpiece, one can only assume that this wraith is carrying the souls of those unfortunate enough to have been previously pursued by this spectre.

Wraiths can also hold grudges against the living, actively seeking out and hunting down certain individuals that have wronged their long forgotten past selves. When an ominous fog rolls over the village at night, all you can do is pray that its not your turn to be taken away. While the body of a wraith is ostensibly alike to a human skeleton's, even lacking muscle, something inexplicable motivates their bones to move and manipulate their environment, I'm partial to the notion that that force is pure and utter hatred and despair. Only experienced hunters with adequate equipment are able to put a wraith to rest, eternally.

While wandering around in the spellbound garden, be careful to avoid the dark and mysterious spots where trees veil any and all sunlight. You never know what might linger in the dark...
