One day, a young boy went on a walk in the woods. He had no parents, and he had no name. But he was still able to talk. The forest he wandered into was inhabited by a griffin. Of course the boy did not know this, nor did anyone else in the world. He found a den made of a strange looking shining mineral. The boy did not know what it was, but he still decided to sit on it. The den moved slightly, and then it ascended upward, until he realized that he had made a terrible mistake. He was sitting on the back of the griffin! The griffin had gigantic golden wings. It had soon taken the boy up above the clouds, and then it somehow landed on a cloud, with the boy on it's back. The boy got off of the beast's back, and then something that looked like a feather sprouted from his back. Before he even knew it, he had grown wings! They were small wings, but they were still wings!

"Where am I?" asked the boy.

"You're in the sky. Obviously."  answered the griffin who he did not think could speak.

"What is your name?"  said the griffin.

"I don't have one." said the boy

"My name is Kovuk"

"Why have you brought me here?"

"We need a new sky guardian"

To the boy, a sky guardian sounded important.

"Okay, but why did you take ME? Why not anyone else who happened to wander into your forest?"

"You are the only one who has come here in a while. And we need a young child to ward off any intruders. You must devote your whole life to being the sky guardian."

"Sure. I'll do it."

And that was the start of the boy's career as the sky guardian. It was an easy job, but he was still satisfied with being the important one for once. Kovuk was to teach him to fly. But the boy still wondered what Kovuk meant by "we". Kovuk was the leader of the cloud dwellers (Kovuk and the others who lived in the sky called themselves the cloud dwellers). He made many friends, and was soon accepted into their peaceful community above the clouds. He danced with the dragons and flew with the fairies. He played with the pixies and the pegasi (plural for pegasus). The boy felt that if he lived in a community like this, and if he was such an important person, he might as well have a name. He named himself "Jumaki", which meant protector in an ancient language of the cloud dwellers. Jumaki grew up in the clouds along with his new family members.

Jumaki went from an orphan boy to a sky guardian. A pretty rough transition if you ask me. As the griffin said, he must devote his whole life to being sky guardian. And Jumaki did. He did it until he died, and then his daughter took his place. Jumaki married a centaur girl named Hamal. His daughter had the body of her mother and the unusual lavender colored eyes and wings of her father.

That was the end of Jumaki's story. He was a sky guardian, a father, an orphan, and many other things, too.
