Now, I know it's not perfectly original, but it's not a character actually from Star Trek as far as I know. So, let's take a look at a short backstory, shall we?
Commander Jimmy Nikkal was born on the planet Falpzor (a human colony) in the year 3126. 14 years later, the whole colony is wiped out by raiders. EXCEPT FOR JIMMY, who was saved by a passing ship. 4 years after that, he enlisted and quickly rose to the rank of Commander.
