In the early 50’s, there was an American girl named Melanie Rose, or "Mel" for short. Mel was the hottest chick in the neighborhood, coming from a wealthy family, leading the most popular clique at the private high school she attended, and serving as the school’s head cheerleader, so of course she had her pick of the boys. As one would expect, Mel paired up with the school’s star quarterback, Steven “Axel” Spenser. But all was not as it seemed.
Axel and Mel were known to squabble quite a bit, but no one thought much of it. That is, until a holiday dance was organized to raise repair funds for the school’s faulty heaters. During said dance, Mel became suspicious that Axel was seeing someone else. She confronted him about it on the drive home, and a heated argument ensued that ended with an enraged Axel throwing Mel out of the car, and into a snowstorm, no less.
Two days later, a random passerby discovered the lifeless meatsicle that Mel had become. She was buried in the very same sky-blue dress that she died in. But nothing will grow on Mel’s grave, not even the grass, for with her dying breath she had sworn that anything planted there would wither in frostbite as she had, even in the middle of summer. Her spirit can never rest, for she is bound here by her anger at having been so cruelly taken from her family.
The spirit of Mel wandered the city for several days, until she came across Axel’s house. Once inside, she was horrified to discover that Axel had in fact been dancing in the sheets with Teresa "Terry" Carswel, Mel’s best friend since childhood. After the initial shock wore off, Mel was filled with a jealous rage like never before. In that moment of absolute despair, Melanie's heart froze solid, her skin turned icy blue, the waters of the Arctic Sea flowed through her veins. She was transformed into the Ice Maiden, a vengeful entity of pure, unadulterated hatred wielding the powers of Winter itself.
In the morning, the Spenser family discovered the bodies of Axel and Tanya still in his bed, appearing to have been flash-frozen where they sat, expressions of horror permanently engraved upon their faces. The rest of the room was untouched, save for a flurry of dead, frostbitten white rose petals scattered about, some still half-frozen. The case went stone-cold and remains unsolved to this day. But the Ice Maiden was not satisfied. She will never be satisfied. Many similar incidents have occurred since, the victims always those who commit adultery.
