I couldn't breathe outside. The air outside of their shelter was so thin, it required a mask at all times to wear. When Dmitri died next to me, I had lost all hope. Nomad prisoners ended up as target practice, and bait for the hordes of zombies and mutants. The cathedral was in viewing distance, and there was a whole army of surface rangers, the descendants of soldiers, some even remembering what life was like 20 years ago...before the bombs fell. I made my way outside, a survival knife my only friend. The cold air made my journey worse. The mask became foggy, and I could barely see the light in front of me. But I knew...the faint glimmar of hope in the distance was the cathedral...and eventually I collapsed. A group of Rangers greeted my awakening. Hope has its ways, even in the darkest of times. I looked at my watch, the light turning green. I had plenty of air left, hopefully enough to rescue the last of my comrades.
