"Are you still playing Minecraft Beta 1.7.3? Who does that? " - The uncultured

Do not lose hope my fellow people of culture, for there are still some out there that hold on to the past as much as you. With that being said, have you come to find that your texture pack of choice just isn't scratching your "itch" anymore? Want to try something new?

Give this texture pack a chance even if it only seems mildly interesting. I'm positive that it'll grow on you if you aren't completely on board.

Cobalt is a texture pack made for those who are bored of the default texture pack of Minecraft.

Its textures are designed to be as visually pleasing as possible, while not caving into style completely.

The colors of this texture pack are soft, and have just enough contrast, additionally, this description extends to the textures themselves. Outlines are almost never used.

If one were to describe the texture pack in a single phrase, "Alternative-realistic textures" would be the best fit.

Thank you for clicking up to this point, I hope your day is well.

Cobalt Autumn vs. Cobalt (Regular)

Foliage Color

* Cobalt Autumn has darker tree colors, and includes all the colors of the leaves during the fall time. Very little green will be seen on the regular trees with this variant of the pack. The grass can be a bit yellow at points, and it rarely reaches a deep green that is seen in Cobalt (Regular).

* Cobalt (Regular) uses typical spring/summer color schemes for the tree foliage, excepting some dark hues of amber that will occasionally occur. The grass is also a nice saturated green. These colors make the world seem lush and thriving.

Wood Color Scheme

*
Cobalt Autumn features an amber tinge to wooden textures, including: wooden planks, logs, crafting table, chests, and record players

* Cobalt Regular has a typical yellow-white wood color, and this scheme also applies to the wooden based items, as they did with Cobalt Autumn.

Items

* Cobalt Autumn's tools are more ragged and rustic. Iron is also darker, alike to black steel. Diamonds are different as well.

Glowstone is different between Cobalt Autumn and Cobalt regular.

Author's Personal Notes:
Background:
I've spent pretty much all of 2014 up to now wanting to make my own texture pack for Minecraft. Playing with my friends back in the day was what inspired me most. I remember my friend Zowja made a texture pack for the old versions we were playing at that time, and I became interested when I figured out what the process of making a texture pack was actually like. Yes, playing other people's texture packs made me realize something very special and that's that I've always wanted to make something that makes me satisfied down to the last pixel. Right now, I'm almost completely there, and it has been an entertaining journey the entire way. Every texture you see in the game is infused with my personal touch, obviously excepting the animations since I cannot manipulate those correctly without MCPatcher, but I hope you enjoy it :-)

Thoughts on the Workload:
There is so much work.
Looking back now, it didn't seem like I did much at all, but as I was grinding through the days, looking at what grand progress I had left to do, it did seem insurmountable. But, here I am, July of 2020, standing on top of a project that I can consider complete, for now.
I can only imagine how much effort is put into the resource packs for the current version of Minecraft. It is an admirable accomplishment, especially if it's a one man team.
Future Plans:
Custom paintings, fiddle around with dyes, and work on animations maybe ? if I can do it.

4 Update Logs

Update #4 (Autumn Revisited) : by bluedemons1977 08/16/2020 1:55:41 amAug 16th, 2020

Hello all, me again. I return to you guys with wonderful news, I have revisited my Autumn version and have been cranking away some work on it for the past two and a half weeks or so. Some of you might be aware that I've also worked on a skin entry for the Spellbound Garden contest, and if you didn't know, well, now you do :-D.
You'll see what I've changed but here's what I still want to do: custom paintings, variations in different dyes, animations (with MCPatcher?), and alter glass texture for Cobalt Autumn - I just think it should be different but I don't know how I should change it.

But I digress, the rest of this update post will describe the things I've changed for both the Cobalt Autumn, and Cobalt Regular editions. I was able to get more pictures of the changes I made so please enjoy!

Cobalt Regular Changes (In no particular order):
1. Sugarcane (click for image)
2. Cookie texture (click for image)
3. Particles actually implemented (I made a stoopid mistake and edited the wrong file for the July version. I thought that the file I had originally edited would change the particles that actually appear in game, but it didn't, so I fixed that)
4. Painting item

Cobalt Autumn Changes (In no particular order, again):
1. Moon now looks like a real moon (click for tiny image)
2. Roses are black and Dandelions look a little dry (click for image)
3. All tools redone (click for image)
4. Health and Armor icons changed (click for img- note: the half heart now looks like a miniature heart inside the outline instead of a heart sliced in half)
5. Wood has a hint of amber shading
6. Logs do too
7. Wood based items follow color scheme of wood planks
8. Torches look like candles (click for image of this and previous 3 changes)
9. Stone given a hint of brown, change translates to ores too (a certain ore was changed completely to acommodate this, figure out which one through your own research!)
10. Main title updated to indicate version of texture pack
11. Selection bars changed
12. Main screen background tile changed (click to make a change :-/)
13. Iron bars now look like black steel, idk I just thought it looked good and seemed like a nice change

Closing Note: I tried editing the textures for clocks and compasses but it didn't work :-/ anyone know how to change animations??? I think I'm finally ready to move onto that next step!

Tip: it's better to say your pack is for Beta 1.7 than for 1.7.3, people who play Beta 1.7 will look for Beta 1.7 packs, not Release 1.7.3 packs.
