ATTENTION! This is not complete! This is a work in progress!

Requires MCPatcher for Cherry Blossoms!
If you like it, leave a diamond ;D

Currently updating this pack for version 1.7 and beyond. It will take a while since it's circa 1.2.5, and there is a heck of a lot to learn. Building a small town, for downloading and checking things out, that will be available in the near future.

Questions? Suggestions? Feedback? I'd love to hear them. Leave a comment or drop me a message! Taking new promo pictures, the old ones are highly outdated. A lot of textures have since been completely changed!

Have you ever wished that you could build a Shinto Temple in a beautiful landscape? Ever wanted to wander under cherry blossoms in the midst of a spring breeze? Maybe you just want a cool katana! Well, this may just be the pack for you. No gimmicks, no pop-culture or anime references. Just plain, simple, traditional Japanese textures made lovingly for minecraft.

Taiyo means, "sun" in Japanese. I think it's a good pick for a texture that is meant to be from the Land of the Rising Sun! I've had a fascination with Japan for a long time, and I've finally gotten around to making it a part of my minecraft experience. I hope you guys like the idea!

I'm far from finished with the pack, and starting from nearly square one, but I'd like to see what others think about it! As far as changes from the original idea, I'm smoothing a lot of things out - it's not really all that good looking with so much noise, I've found. The nether won't be crazy since there is now netherquartz, which is a life saver! Ladders and various little things have changed, although I've lightened a lot of wood as far as peoples suggestions, and it looks great. Going to keep workin'. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, as they say.

Wool Tatami Mat Guide

The Tatami are a little tricky to get the hang of, so I color coded them. Just hover over to see the color. It may be difficult to use them at first.
  • Straight Edges: Red, Brown, Orange, Yellow
  • Corner Pieces: Gray, Light Gray, Green, Light Green
  • Opposite Sides Open: Cyan, Light Blue
  • One Side Open: Blue, Purple, Magenta, Pink
  • No Sides Open: Black
  • All Sides Open: White

Here is a Picture of how to lay out Tatami!

Notes and Credits
A lot of my insperation comes from Samurai Champloo, various japanese myth and folklore, and also tradtional artwork and building techniques.

I'm currently building this pack over Good Morning Craft because of the size, though I plan on all textures to become 100% my own!

I plan on doing a lot with this one, and I hope that I'll get feedback, ideas and critiques from the community!

Thank you for the guide! it is helpful!

I was actually making a Tatami for a Japanese building, and I find this now? I has bad luck. The contest is over now, I didn't win... :( But the winners were very impressive. Trails off....

The birch leaves don't work for me.

Man, this is beautiful. Now I know what to do with all of my colored wool! Big tatami ftw. You also did an amazing job on monsters and animals. And finally, I like the background. This sun is as pretty as this Mount Fuji.

Will you plan to change the muic from the dics?

I'll look into it! Having traditional japanese music would be something preferable to what's on there now. Sorry for the late reply, been having some computer trouble :/

The figure you adapted to zombies is not Ju-On.

Ju-On is Japanese movie based in a Japanese folkloric vengeful spirit named Onryo .

Hey, thank you! I've always wondered what kind of spirits these were - now I know, lol

You're very much welcome :)

I'm addicted to japanese culture, customes, traditions and folklore so I thought it would be better to tell you the real thing :p

Also, the skeleton figure you adapted is not Shinobi. Shinobi is a game inspired in a great swordsman named Miyamoto Musashi.

The spiders I would probably mention it as Tsuchigumo - the ground spider, since this name is also associated with a clan.

The pigmen I would try to find a better source since you're using another game's character and, a Yõkai is a a class of supernatural monsters in Japanese folklore. Often they possess animal features such as similarities with a turtle or they  have wings but, they remain human figure most of the time.

About the wolves, Kitsune is another folklore creature that takes the shape of a wolf however they also assume the form of humans. Maybe a Kyūbi?

I wish you good luck with your pack! I'm looking forward to see more screenshots from it ;)

Sorry for the late reply! I can't get it for you, but only because I was building it on a server that has since changed maps. I just followed temple designs and stuff, it's fairly easy to build!

You should add like some Samurai Armour, or like ninja armour, it's a bit cliche but that doesn't mean it isn't cool and fun to do!
