So we are working on this project where if you rename an item it gets a different texture. These are obviously all over pmc but since me and my friend are new to this type of function it didn't really work out for us, so i'm just wondering if there are people that could possibly help us make it work or explain how to do it in the first place?
Thanks in advance.

Hi there! I'm guessing you're talking about a CIT pack. There are a couple of things that you might be having trouble with.
1. Folders: In your pack's Minecraft folder you will need at least 2 folders, optifine and textures. In the optifine folder, you'll have another called cit. This is where your models and property files will go. In textures, you'll have one called block. This is where all your model textures will go.
2. Capitalization: Capitalization in file names usually breaks texture packs, so make sure your files are all in lowercase.
Here's a tutorial by MissGhouls that helped me get started https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekt2jwllZwI
There's a different method for custom items where you spawn your items with commands. I'm not as familiar with this one, but here is a useful tutorial by InTheLittleWood that's on my "to-be-watched" list: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cw8PPPEl_IQ
Hopefully this helps. Best of luck with your project!
