Hi guys Kiwi here and today, I bring you my first ever blog on PlanetMinecraft! I am new to blogging so please go easy on me! (I'm also not the best writer in the world, but this topic has been on my mind for quite some time now.) I also looked for any topics (via the search bar) that gave enough insight that would make this blog useless, which most of them were from 1-2 years ago, when not a lot of information on this topic was avaliable. I'm sorry if you have a blog post about this already, I was just trying to think of a blog idea :P. Enough of that and let's get straight into the blog!

Name
changes? What is going on here?! (Basic Info)
Mojang has stated that there will a way to change your name in 1.8. No one is sure about how yet, but what I'm thinking is it will probably be avaliable via the minecraft website itself. But it means a lot of minecraft plugins will become broken within the 1.8 (Bountiful) Update, as it means any player could switch his or her name to an administrator's name and have all the same permissions.

So how will players be identified uniquely
? (UUID's)
Great question, the answer to that is a UUID (A Universally Unique IDentifier) for each player, no matter what name. This basically means that you will have a series of numbers and letters to be identified. This is VERY important, as then players who were banned on a minecraft server could switch their name and get back on that server (only if thast server uses a plugin like banmanager, if it's the default minecraft banning system, then it is impossible. same goes for whitelisting.) It also means on servers that have stats saved (Mineplex, The Hive, Hypixel, etc) could be completely wrecked. For example, a player wanted to switch his name from Example123 to Player would have all his/her stats wiped as players used to be identified by their username itself. This is why a lot of plugins will be wrecked within the update. PLEASE NOTE: If you change your minecraft username, your previous name can be taken by anyone, and no two players can have the same name.

So is the update with name changes good or bad?
All in all, the name changes do have some problems to come along with it, but this is not the end! Plugin creators will be able to update their plugin to fit the UUID's needs. Also this means if a player were to hate their username, or just wanted it to be switched, they would be able to do so! I personally am not going to switch my username, but I know many players will. In conclusion I believe this will be a pretty cool update. What do you think? Leave a comment down below and please leave a diamond if this gave you any info/help on the topic! Here's a link for a bit more of an explination: click here!
EDIT: I got pop reel! Holy smokes thanks you guys! undefined

Name changing will kill minecraft. Friends won't know who their friends are... Trolls can change their name every 30 days and use VPN's to connect. Name changing is purely for server trolls and accomplishes nothing but confusion and frustration!! Name changes will also destroy forums. Nothing will match. Trolls can change their name, go on the forum with a nasty name and say nasty things... then do it over and over again - Every 30 days !! It will completely break Minecraft after countless changing to the point that nobody will want to play the game anymore. A lot has been in decline since name changing and Minecraft will never be the same. These days, everything is in UUID so looking up a player involves first converting the name to UUID and then hunting through the alien codes to try to locate their YML... No more sort by player, etc - It's all gone !! The name changing update is the thing that will destroy any server owners desire to continue (unless they only care about donations and not players) ~~ RIP Minecraft !!

Sorry for the late reply! But anyways like I said in the blog, UUID's will prevent trolls and such from coming back from a ban and such. I actually changed my name to see what would happen, I had all the same stats and such. And if a server didn't have plugins prepared for the UUID's, they could easily just ban the player's ip. As for looking up a UUID, I believe you can find that out in-game (though I am not 100% sure on that one) I honestly think that UUID's are better than player names, and (like in the blog) you can change your name, which I know a LOT of players would like. Only a small minority will be using name changes in a bad and harmful way. Most players will be using them for things such as fixing capitalization in their usernames and such.

A player wont be able to have the same name as another player, so, if someone wanted to have the name of Dinnerbone, they cant because there is already a Dinnerbone. So as long as the Administrators dont change there name, it should be the same and plugins wont break, but it would still be a good idea to use the UUID system, so no one can have the admin username. But overall good, plus, try to avoid bright colors,  a lot of people have troubles reading bright colors, just like me.

Good thing to include, that you cant change your username every 5 minutes, there will be a grace period after you change, so they can prevent spam. Plus I would link to the Q&A blog post about Name Changes from the Mojang site.

Glad someone posted their opinion! I think the whole reason that names wouldn't work for /ban etc and their using the UUID's is just to be sure :) thanks for giving me some advice about the colors as well :) I guess I should link the Q and A from Mojang huh? :P
EDIT: I cant for some reason (now) find the Q and A! weird huh? I will link a good explination about name changing too, though.

Also, name changes are planned for shortly after 1.8, maybe 1.8.2
