Cut down enough wood for at least a stack of wooden planks.

Make a small shelter to prevent mobs from attacking you.

In the day time make sure you have collected enough food to survive the night.
No.4 Torches
Make sure you have enough torches to light up your area to prevent monsters from spawning.
No.5 Weapons
You want a variety of stone weapons just in case you get attacked by a mob.

Way 2: I'm mining all night untill I don't get out of torches, when I'm out of torches I go build a cobble base in the cave and plant some trees underground :3
