I think there should be more contests about Building rather then skining. Minecraft isn't about clothes or fashion, or anything like that its about building! Like this if you want more building contests!!! Skins are cool but people arent you tired of always seeing skins on this website? Theres 3times as many skins as there are projects. If you want to see more building and less skin this is the blog for you. I dont hate skins nor should you but i love buildings lets see more of those!

I agree, but at the same time I love the opportunity to make skins in a contest. We should have the the opportunity to do both a skin and project contest at the same time. What we have this month is great and I think that Planet Minecraft should keep a skin and project contest running at the same time. Also remember the face of Minecraft is Steve, people are really just trying to make the image of Minecraft in their image.

Ironically your latest submission is a skin XD

No seriously I believe the same. Finally I can make an entry to a contest on PMC those skinning stuff is really making me tired, but the truth is skinning contests are easier to judge, make etc. then building contests.

The question of skins is how often do you change a skin? Personally I use mine since almost the beginning when I was searching for a good one. I did change it once or twice but only for a short while and then change it back to my good old Guybrush Threepwood skin ^_^

This is true in almost 80% of cases. New freshly original skins are very rare. After all they are just Skins and not a sandbox game like Minecraft with endless projects!

There are way too many skins being made, because they can take 5-15 minuets for the quick ones, and 60- 80 minuets for the better ones the contests are to encourage people to take pride in their skins.

Both aspects have their merits, as a skinner myself I find the skin contests are a great way to generate activity as well as bringing an overall improvement in quality. Whilst time can be relatively short in creating skins and judging them, it is by no means easier. Building, I've found can be just as complex, depending on what is involved, however the process of creation is considerably longer, and so would the judging process be.

Like an earlier commenter mentioned, there is already a building contest underway. I would venture to guess that the skinning contests started off as a way to be able to organise contests in general. I'm going to predict that there won't be any decrease in the number of skin contests, but there will be a rise in contests relating to other aspects of Minecraft in the near future.
