Can't connect to minecraft.net?

The log-in servers are offline, thus you cannot be authenticated. SInce you are not authenticated, you are not able to log-in to any multiplayer servers. The server status in your client just shows what servers you can potentially connect to, but will not allow you to do so until you are authenticated. Your best bet is to wait it out until the log-in servers are back online.
