For Windows:
1. Download The Icon you want
2 Left click on your minecraft shortcut and select properties
3.Select Change Icon
4.Navigate to your .ico file you downloaded and your done!

For Mac:
Just right click the icon, go to show in finder, then right click and click "show package contents" then find the resources folder and just replace the icon with the an image of the same file type

If you use windows 8, You need to make a shortcut. This will allow you to mess around with the application like crazy. You can rename it To "Minecraft" instead of it being a shortcut.

This only workds on windows, to do this on mac just right click the icon, go to show in finder, then right click and click "show package contents" then find the resources folder and just replace the icon with the an image of the same file type

And just a little help for you guys, there is only a change icon button in the properties of a SHORTCUT of your launcher! It won't be there for the original launcher for some reason. :P Glad I could help! :D

I think you can just do the same thing except you have to click "get info" then drag your mac icon (.icns or .hxqs (or something)) into the icon in the "get info" window.
