Have you ever wondered about how these Bukkit developers make the plugin? Have you ever wanted to make a plugin of your own for maybe your own server? Maybe you have never though about it until you've read this blog? If so, keep on continuing, as I will not teach, but guide you through the process.
Bukkit plugins are coded in a programming language called Java. So in order for you to learn how to make a plugin, you must first take a look at what Java is and understand it's rules.
Now I will NOT teach Java in this tutorial because it would take up a lot of space.
But here are links that will get you started with Java. Take note that I am only going to give you guys links that are meant for absolute beginners, so don't worry about where you currently stand.
For our visual learners:
Here is a playlist of about 50 videos that will get you started. Please do not skip around and if you have any questions, keep watching and ask in the comments. Skipping a part will halter your progression.
Thenewboston - www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hl-zzrqQoSE&list=PL17E300C92CE0261A
For our readers:
You don't like watching videos, but you would rather read? Great, because learning by books is very effective!
The links I am giving you guys are PDF's. They may take a while to load.
Head First Java eBook - uet.vnu.edu.vn/~chauttm/e-books/java/Head-First-Java-2nd-edition.pdf
Java For Dummies - robot.bolink.org/ebooks/Beginning%20Programmming%20with%20Java%20for%20Dummies.pdf
Sam's Teach Yourself Java in 24 Hours - portal.aauj.edu/e_books/teach_your_self_java_in_21_days.pdf
Please, I beg you, do NOT rush to learn Java. Take your time. I recommend 2-6 weeks before jumping into the Bukkit API. I promise you, if you do not know the basics of Java, then Bukkit will not make sense.
If you have any questions while you are learning Java. You can either post a comment on here, and I will try my best to answer them, or you can go to this forum that is filled with brilliant and friendly programmers. It is a very popular forum,so you will get the answer you are looking for almost immediately.
Here is the link: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/java
Go to that link and make an account. After that, ask any question you'd like in the Java section.
I wish you guys the best of luck. I really hope and I believe that you guys will shine and become the next sk89's (Developer of WorldEdit / WorldGuard).
