Steve - The Epitome of a Survivor

It was June 23, 2037, the sky shined bright, peace was with all, and no threat of war existed in the world. That lasted until the day the North Korean supreme ruler Kim Jong-un got replaced by the more brutal and cruel leader Kim Sing. Previously North Korea had agreed to withdraw all armed nuclear missiles in exchange for trading access with the United Nations. The savage general Kim Sing did not like this at all; he saw it as a weakness of the young leader Kim Jong-un, and planned to overthrow the government with the help of the other political party members who agreed with him. In about two weeks of time, Kim Sing revolutionized North Korea by cutting off all trade with outside democrats, arming all nuclear weapons, and planning to strike neighboring lands for their riches and living space. As the world heard about this terrifying news, all members of the United Nations met up to threaten North Korea with a war. Kim Sing got this message and counter-threatened the United Nations by warning them not to intrude, or else he would release his nuclear arsenal and fire. The United Nations knew that if they interfered with Kim Sing's plans, it would lead to a mutually assured destruction, leaving the world in chaos. The United Nations decided not to interfere.

A year has passed since the beginning of Kim Sing's conquest. He has taken over Taiwan, Singapore, and Thailand. The world was in chaos as no one knew what was going to happen. This all continued until the United States (not with the support of the United Nations) threatened Kim Sing and sent troops to allied forces in Asia. Kim Sing got angry at this and aimed his nuclear weapon in position of Tennessee, United States. Of course this was done in secret (such as the Cuban Missile Crisis); no one in America really knew what was going on and what would happen. The United States Cabinet believed that Kim Sing was bluffing and would not fire the weapon. They were completely wrong; he fired the missile. As the missile fired off and went onto Tennessee, the United States fired back, so did Russia, France, Turkey, and England. Kim Sing was prepared for this; he fired twelve weapons at the same time from all of his provinces, cities, and help from China. In about two days of time, the world ended. The population went from seven billion to extinct. This war was marked as the World War III.

You probably think that the world was over for the pre-humans, but that is wrong. I will tell you the real story, the story that the post-humans forgot to mention. The world did not become extinct of pre-humans after the mutually assured destruction in 2038. There was one man that had survived the blast. His name was Steve. This man was different; he was not like us; he was considered, in our terms, pre-human (a human that survived the destruction). Unlike us post-humans, pre-humans had smaller noses, smaller heads, and a string-like substance coming out of their heads, bodies, arms, and faces. Before the war, Steve was an ordinary guy who did ordinary things with ordinary people. He was a clever man; he foresaw the destruction of human-kind in the winter of 2037 and decided to build himself a vault made out of steel. Inside the vault he had stored two years worth of food, water, and air. This had cost him everything he owned, but he did it. Everyone in 2037 had thought he was a whack job because no one could fathom a nuclear war, maybe another cold war, but definitely not a nuclear war. They all perished. Steve had no family; he had lived in foster care since he was six years old. His biological parents were diagnosed with Ebola, a fatal disease marked by fever and severe internal bleeding, which lead the government to take his parents away from him. No one knew what happened to his biological parents. Steve lived a relatively easy life; he had caring foster parents with a good financial status. When Steve graduated from high school, he attended the University of Tennessee and got a degree in economics. Steve did not have many friends, he was sort of a recluse. Shortly after landing a job as a financial analyst at Apple, Steve saw the war coming and took out a loan that covered the cost of his survival materials and the vault. After that, World War III emerged.

Steve had stayed in that vault for nearly two years. His patience kept him alive and immune from radiation poisoning. We post-humans were impatient. We left our storages way too early and faced genetic disorders and DNA mutations, which led to our species being born. The radiation had caused us to lose our memory, our way of living, and the memory of whom we were. For two years we had lived with no idea what to do. This ended when Steve came. Steve had brought with him a vast knowledge of survival skills, basic communication skills, language, and he taught us how to trade and build our economy. Steve was the most important figure we looked up to. We had treated him like our king, our supreme ruler, but he never wanted that. He said he wanted to explore the post-apocalyptic world and venture out for the secrets that remained from the pre-apocalyptic era. His name was Steve. He was the epitome of a survivor.

And that's it folks. I sure hope you enjoyed this as much as I have. Also thanks for giving me the opportunity to write; I really enjoy writing. If you find any grammatical errors or illogical sentence structures that don't quite make sense, post a comment below, and I will try to fix them.
