So, I played Scamper3396's "A New World" resource pack the other day. Of course, it comes with a sound pack too, "Sounds of a New World." If you really want to enjoy a unique Minecraft experience, you want to use a resource pack with custom sounds.
The first thing I liked spawning into the world, was the atmosphere. The grass is gray, the sky is pale, all around you are strangely colored plants and trees. The pigs are red, and float! As I begin cutting down some trees to get wood, quickly building a shelter, I go into a cave, and I hear this strange noise. At first I thought it was the faint sound of birds chirping. Which I found weird as I was underground. I soon realized what I had heard was not birds, but the mechanical chirp of a spider! After I killed it, it made a mechanical powering down noise, as expected of a robot that had just been destroyed. Soon after, night fell, and there was an onslaught of robots (zombies) and what appeared to be borg-like things (skeletons), shooting at me. Easily, I could say this wasn't Minecraft anymore, but that's what made the experience so unique.
What does the spider say?

Some things I liked:
  • The Soundtrack. Normally, I have my music set to 0, because the default music annoys me. But for this, the bgm was worth turning it back up, because it sounds so futuristic. It adds a whole new feel to the alien setting.

  • The Textures. The textures look well done and very professional. Despite the grass and sky being dull and gray, it helps bring out the plants, trees, and animals. Multiple moons and millions of stars made the sky interesting to look at during the night.
  • The Sounds. The clank of hitting a zombie, and the arrhythmic whirring and clicking sounds were incredible. The spiders shutting down when killed amazed me.
Some things I didn't like:
  • Certain Sounds Are Annoying. While the spider's telltale chirp was good at first, it quickly became annoying, especially when being attacked by mobs of spiders. Same with the zombies. When being attacked by a group of over eight, the zombie noises can become overwhelming.

  • Some Sounds Are Absent. The skeleton is the prime example of this. Not sure if there are plans already to replace it, but the skins for the skeletons have no legs, and are fully robotic, and eerily borg-like, but they still have the same old skeleton noises. I'd recommend replacing footsteps with hovering noises, and the regular sounds with something electronic.
  • Certain Textures Are Missing? The spiders have default spider eyes over their singular mechanical one.
Overall:
If I had to rate this resource pack on a 5-star scale, I'd easily give it 4 stars.
You can download "A New World" and it's sound pack here.
